I wish I had found this site much sooner!
Seeing a bunch of the old names, reliving the memories of how wacky Maine radio is is fun!
I had been in radio in Portland from 1986 until 1998 (mostly part-time gigs) when I realized I was never going to make a dime in radio without working 80 hours a week. Not my bag. In 1998, I took up mobile DJing and did pretty well before I left Maine for Florida in 2010.
Deregulation really ruined radio, especially in Maine. I miss piling carts on top of another and making sure that "Fred" would play correctly through the night.
There's something about radio that is hard to put into words. I was board-oping Game 6 of the 86 World Series when Buckner...well...you know...and in 1989 when the earthquake in San Francisco occured.
The whizz of the old dot-matrix printers sending AP Urgents and other news stories. There was nothing like it.
I sometimes really miss the old days. I never had enough talent to be a true Full-Time on-air DJ. I had my moments, but none people remember (Thank God!) except that I was a pest.
Great to see this forum. I will check in on occassion to read the Maine stories. Thanks!
Jim Casey
Too many stations to mention (for fired too many times)
