This is INSANE!!!!!

No, there's law which says TV stations must carry political ads, and at the best available rate.

It's called the election cycle, Marc. It will all be over in about eleven days. Stay cool.

Most stations charge top of the rate card rates (at least my station does, our traffic assistant said to me a few weeks back, "I love election season, because we charge top rate for political ads" versus our regular advertisers), meaning more money for the bottom line.

That may not be true for most of the ads that he is seeing, because that particular rule only applies to advertising that is sponsored by the candidates themselves.

An awful lot of the advertising running in this cycle (with an emphasis on "awful") is coming from independent entitities that aren't officially affiliated with either the candidates or the political parties. Broadcast stations are not obligated to offer the best available rate to those advertisers...or, even, to accept those ads. But since they can charge the highest possible rates for those ads, they'll probably get carried in most instances.
