Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the Jack FM format, and listen to it in Nashville, when I travel there weekly. But to change a heritage oldies station like WCBS is just purely driven by ego, and the fear that someone else may pick it up.

This certainly means that other heritage stations like WRBQ, Tampa, and many other Infinity stations will be flipping to Jack very soon! Nothing is sacred and off limits, to the brainless wonders at these large companies.

I agree with some threads. Scott Shannon and WPLJ should go back to WABC FM, and fill the format whole immediately. Scott's love for oldies, and his ability, could lead to another strong ratings success story in the Big Apple.

As I said at a recent FCC forum, making headlines on R&R, when I spoke, in regards to full power radio broadcast companies. "They've already destroyed themselves". With moves like this, they did it again!!

Use Jack FM for under performing stations, not stations with 30 year heritage.

Thanks!

Local radio needs to concentrate on the localness. Formats like Jack, as good as I like them, do nothing. They're nothing more than a jukebox and say nothing about the community. Oldies stations were/are distinctive. They had a certain feel, a certain charm, they focused on PERSONALITIES - something precious few current stations lack or aren't doing right.

Launching Jack in NY was a good idea - but they did it on the wrong station. They should have NEVER displaced a strong, focused station with a mandated jukebox format.

(oh, and am I the only one that finds that jukebox requirement quite ludicrous? It goes against the one thing local radio stations should be doing - being local.)

Is there another Infinity station that could have picked up the Jack format there?

Any oldie that was originally recorded in mono(anyway) should have a home on AM radio...at least!
Is there an AM station playing oldies in NY now? perhaps the listener can go there?

As for local, REQUESTS would be nice.<P ID="signature">______________

Infinity's other two stations would have been better choices. WNEW is a milder form of WKTU and WXRK is a wasteland after Stern signs off. JACK is an excellent format but an oldies station should have its place in a city like NY. I hope WOGL in philly isnt next.

I agree... If I were a betting man I would have bet 102.7 would have been 'Jacked'. What happens on WOGL I think would depend on WBEN-FM and how/what Greater Media does with it. I would worry more about Boston's WODS. It's ratings are much too good to flip right now. It would also depend on Entercom's Mike (93.7 WMKK). It wants to be a Variety Hits format but also wants to keep it's former Rhythmic Hits audience (when it was Star) happy as well. I love the Jack format but am not pleased with the implementation in Boston.

I had a professor at Syracuse who said when it came to programming, "If it works don't try to fix it." Some in the radio business need to learn that lesson.

You would think being ranked #8 in NYC and billing $40 million a year would be considered a sucessful station. It seems nothing is safe with Infinity. I dont think Mel Karmizan would have let this happen to 101.1. He just would have crammed in a few more commercials. I actually like the mix on jack but NY needs the local station. Satellite can serve as a jukebox.
