There is an article in today's NY Daily News about former WCBS-TV reporter David Diaz, and his health problems that seem to be related to his work covering the aftermath of the attack at ground zero that first week.

I know I have had some similar symptoms, having been there as well. Remember...He was not working at the "pile", but instead was at the same proximity to the site as we all were!

There were, obviously, a LOT of radio reporters there. I might suggest that if you've had some health issues since that week, you may want to be checked out by the folks who are examining people for things like this.

The people to call are at 1-888-702-0630.

I called the number, and after a number of questions they asked, I was told that I did qualify to be evaluated to see if the issues could be related to the time spent at ground zero.

I spent the bulk of my time post-9/11 at WNEW's studios 3 miles from Ground Zero. 3 miles from Ground Zero, it rained ash--on 9/12 (the corner of 7th & 57th). The studio was regularly filled with people covered in dust from lower Manhattan, coming up to give first-hand accounts of what was happening down there.

I wonder if any health studies have been done in neighborhoods not just in the immediate area, but throughout Manhattan where dust and ash rained down for days post-9/11.
