I know we love our shots at being the armchair programer and other things in this nature......now with the latest post on The Beatles Brunch and why it is not landing on KOOL but instead on WIOJ got me to a point in saying hey this is what I would have done with KOOL from the start.....that is if I had control but since I dont I can dream on.

Weekdays:

5:30am-10:00am: Dave Scott & Heather White--Jacksonville's KOOL Morning Show with Dave & Heather
10:00am-2:00pm: Pat Garrett--Jacksonville's KOOL Cafe from 11am to 1pm...Lunch Time Request
2:00pm-7:00pm: Tom Murphy & AJ Davis--Jacksonville's KOOL Afternoon Show with Tom Murphy and AJ Davis
7:00pm-12:00am: Mike Areford "The Arf"--Jacksonville's KOOL Jukebox from 7 to midnight
12:00am-5:30am: Tom Kent's Hall of Fame Coast To Coast

Weekends:

Saturday:

12:00am-6:00am: Tom Kent's Hall of Fame Coast To Coast
6:00am-9:00am: Goddard's Gold w/ Steve Goddard
9:00am-12:00pm: Tom Murphy
12:00pm-3:00pm: AJ Davis
3:00pm-7:00pm: The Arf
7:00pm-12:00am: Dick Bartley's Rock n' Roll's Greatest Hits

Sunday:
12:00am-6:00am: Tom Kent's Hall of Fame Coast To Coast
6:00am-8:00am: automated with music
8:00am-9:00am: House of Blues Radio Hour
9:00am-11:00am: Blues Basement w/ The Arf
11:00am-12:00pm: Beatles Brunch w/ Joe Johnson
12:00pm-4:00pm: American Gold w/Dick Bartley
4:00pm-7:00pm: Machine Gun Kelly's American Hit List
7:00pm-12:00am: Into the 70's w/Tom Kent

This line up would make a very decent radio station IMO......it would work with great promotion of TV and billboard ads and newspaper as well........tell me what you think.........hey we know the current KOOL may never be number one but our complaning will eventually get to them over at Renda with the listners demanding change...later

I'll give you A for efforts but the reality is - they are determined to do things their way and it's obvious they pay little attention to the constructive suggestions that have appeared on this board for the past year. And it's clear - they (Renda) have been proven wrong in many of their decisions.

But, since we are dreaming and offering our own spin on what would have worked better, here's my take.
You can have all the greatest in syndicated programming and local talent but if your playlist is all over the map and if the station lacks identity, personality and dicipline, then the dollars spent would not be well spent.

However, with your including Pat Garrett middays assumes he would take over the control of the programming, contests and scheduling etc. That would be a logical move to get the station going in the right direction.

As I've mentioned before, I was a very big Dave and Heather fan and since they have gone, my overall morning listening TO ANYONE/ANY STATION in that daypart is significantly down. They would have provided the necessary draw to get people to listen consistantly. Adding them on to the station right after non-compete was over would have been a great move. While billing now is OK (by their standards)I am confident it would have been even better now.

I would not partner Tom Murphy with A.J Davis. What's the point? It's rare to see a duo in afternoon drive even in major markets. It would be expensive and if I were to use A.J, it would be for fill-in.

There's too much syndicated programming on Sunday. It prevents the personality of the station from coming through especially I think it's important for oldies stations to have special theme weekends at least every other weekend.

Beatle Brunch would have been one of the first syndicated programs I would have added. If there were contractual obligations that required carrying the Blues shows, I would get them on earlier or put them on late Sunday night. If not, I would have dumped them long ago and made up for any revenue loss with great programming that would have carried the station.

And finally since we are dreaming, I would accept a position as Music Director/Assistant Program Director and work along side Mr. Garrett. Man, I'd be like a sponge absorbing/learning tons of neat things! LOL

Nice ideas Mburg!
It amazes me how all the "experts" would have done things but nobdy has any idea what goes on behind the doors of Renda. Everybody blames Briggs or Bill Scull. If you want to blames somebody and do something about it call Tony Renda in Pittsburgh and let him know. He is the decision maker. PERIOD. Heck I will even find his phone number for Oldies Cat. Maybe TR will hire him as PD. The number is 412-875-1800. I am sure he would love to hear from some of you.

Hey, at least he was smart enough to know that I don't do weekends! (LOL!)

> Murphy and AJ have to like the fact they get an hour less than the Arf on the weekend.

So Pat, in his networking has Dick Williams called you yet? Maybe he can do the weekend shift that Mburg spared you on Kool FM. Wait a minute, Williams and Spourgeon are on the Beach and Skull still has a gig. This is like a CBS Soap Opera with bad writers! Who's in the shower, Bobby Ewing or Tony Renda?"

Rock on Arf and Briggs. The nightmare still lives!

The Soup or is it the Soap?
