This is what I'd like 103.5/104.3 to be

I was listening to WKTU New York, and, call me crazy, but I think if 103.5/104.3 switched to a playlist very similar to what KTU plays they would probably jump pretty high in both ratings and cume. It's a younger geared format that the soccer moms would enjoy. Another dream I had while taking a nap was that RadioOne bought 107.1 and 107.9 and simulcasted 107.5 on them, and 102.5 bought out WNCI and CD98 was born.......okay, I'm getting a little crazy, but the 103.5/104.3 format idea I think is a good one.

When WDTW Detroit first started out as a rythmic AC it sounded good too. Hearing dance tunes from the 70's to today was fun. In the end though it started to sound similar to its sister top 40 station channel 955 a very tight playlist playing current tunes over and over. Pretty much cancelling ratings their heritage top 40 could have. If saga doesn't give it a tight playlist and keeps updating Mix 107.9 it might work. As for 102.5 the owners have enough issues with that frequency let alone try to buy WNCI. Now If Clear Channel wanted to sell WNCI EMF would probably love another powerhouse signal like the one they are getting in Mobile, Alabama.

I know this is a bit off topic, but don't give EMF any ideas.... I've been listening to WABB-FM Mobile online since the sale was announced, and they are doing a classy job of finishing out the last days. I listened to this station for 8 years when I lived on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. They have always been one of the best CHR's around. I haven't listened them since 1997, but I wish I had found them online. I like them better than WNCI.

There is zero chance Clear Channel sells WNCI to EMF. WABB's situation was a locally owned station with financial problems whose owner passed away, and the family did not want to continue. WNCI is Clear Channel's behemoth and isn't going anywhere.

175kw of "KLove" would give EMF a nice footprint in ohio to fill in around the other signals they have .... :) Miracles can happen....

Yeah, but it is absolutely, positively, not going to happen. WABB was an entirely different situation. EMF did not decided to swoop in on the one-time big CHR just to have it....it was for sale for a number of reasons.

Actually the station that would gain the most for going to this format would be 103.9 (the dance/pop format, not k-love). They have zero ratings, and this would give them at least five to six times the ratings they have now. That definitely won't happen though because they insist on having some sort of rock format on their fm stations.

Wait a minute, zero when multiplied by five or six equals ... zero! 103.9 might very well garner a 0.0 rating within the next month or two, but right now it's at a very robust 0.6.

If 103.9 drops below 1230 and 1460 you know it's time to change formats.. However with the problems at The Blitz as it is with it's share continuing to drop .. wonder if the folks at NABCO will do anything but keep the light on at 103.9 Mhz.

If the upgrade goes through that should provide motivation to try to improve their fortunes with 103.9.

WTDA's version of rock-based classic hits has lost a lot of what provided a point of diifference in the market, but it's still the only commercial station where you can hear occasional nuggets like "Here Comes The Night" by Them (w/Van Morrison), or "Europa" by Santana.  Heck, they may also be the only commercial station that still plays Bob Dylan (I'm not positive).

Uh oh, now you did it. Cue Jake in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1...

When do the operators at NABCO ever do anything that makes sense...stupidest ownership group I've ever see..and I've see more than a few playing with less than a full deck.

Hey, why do you think I was careful to say "commercial" each time? But maybe that was too subtle. :)

Sorry, just got home from work and some errands and couldn't respond sooner. Well no wonder WTDA's ratings are going down the toilet, if they're playing weird stuff by cats like Bob Dylan and Them and Santana. No one wants to hear anything from those wackos anymore; doesn't everyone know that?!?! ;) Let's see, so far on "Secrets" I haven't gone with much Santana, but five different tunes of Them's have been heard and seven of Dylan's, and I'll probably be featuring Van Morrison and Morrissey (of Smiths fame) sometime within the next few months, as that's a combination that Dan out at Used Kids Records has been lobbying for.
I just think it's funny that all these stations don't mind sounding pretty much like each other; they all apparently think that the oldies/classic hits audience in this market as measured by PPM is so massive that they can all double or triple their ratings by either jumping on that genre's bandwagon or remaining on it without making any significant programming adjustments. Well, lotsa luck, everybody; you're all gonna need it. I've got the one thing that could really differentiate you from everyone else, but for the most part you didn't want to hear about "Yesterday's Top Secrets" years ago, and I don't expect you to swallow your pride and express any interest in hearing about it now.

Great article in today's Dispatch about Heatwave and all of the other nostalgic dance parties that are regularly held in Columbus -- http://www.dispatch.com/content/stories/life_and_entertainment/2012/03/03/nstalgic-nights.html. "In a sense, some hosts say, the efforts are a response to the far-reaching tentacles of ubiquitous Top 40 fare."
March's Heatwave will be happening tonight at Ace of Cups. Get there early or you may not be able to get in at all.

Excellent article that proves our point once again that Columbus needs a dance station.
