An ad for a San Antonio station:
"KZEPKZEP-FM 104.5 is accepting applications for a Part-Tim On-Air Announcer, experience preferred but not required."

The last line .."experienced preferred BUT NOT required". 8th largest city in the U.S. and a station there doesn't need experience help? That certainly will bring in the ratings. It must be a tax write off.

It must be a tax write off.
>
KZEP is one of the few independently owned stations left.
Infinity has been trying to buy it, going so far as to blow up KTFM, give up the calls, and change the format to classic rock. It hasn't worked. Classic Rock KZEP has shown up well in the ratings.
And as for experience, for what? Dee Jays don't pick the songs. It's more important to have a personality and ties to the community than some preconcieved notions about what a station should be, especially for a part timer. If a guy can talk and push the space bar button on a computer, what kind of experience is needed? They don't give out third tickets anymore.
It could be worse. The ad could have set the qualifications at "Must be able to fog a mirror..."

8th largest city? What does that have to do with anything? It's MARKET #30. Size of the core city is not relevant.

My question is this: Did THEY spell part-time incorrectly or did you clip the "e" when you posted it?

I'm not sure what qualifies as independant. I guess maybe Magic 1160 might be independant. KLTY was locally owned for years by the Rodgiquez family for years when it was on 94.1 until they sold it to Sunburst Media.I believe KBEC 1390 in Waxahachie may still be locally owned.

The #1 station in town is, in fact, independently owned. Hyman Childs, DBA Service Broadcasting, owns KKDA-AM/FM and KRNB.

KBEC is locally owned as well, by the daughter of the late original owner Richard Tuck.

He was also known to be early on occasion.

Can that be learned in radio school?

By the way, do you know a GOOD broadcasting school I could attend while pursuing my medical and law degrees simultaneously?

Why don't you both learn how to spell INDEPENDENT before asking the question?

Why don't I take a nap while I'm in a GOOD mood :)?

Richard Who?

Sorry, Tuck that.

Nope. It was copied correctly.

There's also KPYK in Terrell along with KHYI and KXEZ. If we add the non-comms, KEOM, KCBI would qualify.

And to the posters below, why is necessary to make fun of the late Mr. Tuck?

Pizza v. traffic reporting

>> If you can deliver pizza, you can deliver the traffic :)

Yeah but pizza is usually delivered HOT ...

a lot of traffic reporting sounds like cold, store bought stuff :)
