Prayers to our friends in Boston. According to reports. Boston has radio silence. No cellphones allowed. Google simultaneously launches Person Finder. Reporters are now word of mouth unless they have older com units. This is where local radio stations are important.

False on ALL of the bolded.

The cell phone service being turned off was completely false... The networks did get congested by all the people tweeting, facebooking, instagraming and placing voice calls.. but no one used a kill switch.. The media was spreading false rumors once again... I saw multiple instances today that national news media gave out unverified information without first checking their facts.

In the early hours of an incident like this, a lot of inaccurate and misleading information can be broadcast--with claims that it comes from a reliable source! The JFK assassination, the Reagan Assassination attempt, and 9/11 are prime examples of such information glitches. There WERE reports that cell service had been suspended downtown in early newscasts, so don't "blame the messenger." Musiconradio.com was going on information he or she had at the time. In the morning, we will hear even more changed information. That's just how it goes.

It's really a time of chaos for the media, and everyone else. It's not a time of one-upsmanship.

The point is even with congested lines, radio provided vital information. Sorry many missed this point.

The time you took to come here and post is appreciated by many. No need to apologize.

I agree - I heard WBZ went wall to wall (Kudos to them).. while the music formatted stations gave updates between music sets. I wasn't trying to say radio wasn't important or that musicradio didn't have a valid point.. the first I saw of the "false" reports of the cell phone access being 'turned off' was from AP on twitter.. so I can see why news stations 'ran' with it as fact.

Thanks. Once again thoughts and prayers for the people of Boston.

OK thanks; I was listening on an analog walkman and heard a music station that I thought was Mix (i.e., thought they had gone back to music)--maybe it was XLO instead...so I thought they went back

Mix stayed w/WBZ AM & TV until just after 3 AM then we went back live w/the morning show at 5:45 am.

Um, you might want to check that again....I’m positive all four FMs went on their own way at Midnite. ???

Look at your playlists for yesterday (it ends @ 3:06pm) and today (begins right @ 12:02am). ;)

I heard WODS(AMP 1033) once again simulcasting WBZ 1030 this morning,Sports Hub WBZ-FM stuck with regular programming.Im actualy surprised they opted to Simulcast on AMP and not Sports Hub.

Hot 96.9 Kiss 108 and honestly i feel JAM'N 94.5 did a very good job as well... I give CBS the #1 good job 103.3 AMP Radio and Mix 104.1

i think the sports hub did a good job as well today with news and sports updates at the top of every hour. such a somber day as the the ratings came out.

re: the cell phones being "OFF"
I have heard from a reliable source Certian
officials, Goverment employees etc were asked
not to comment, ...as per the usual practice
in these situations..
