This isn't cool at all

This didn't hit me until just now when I looked at the preseason schedule. We have a game tonight which begins at 9:00 PM. The ticket will power down before the game begins, and it's going to suck being in the car and losing the game any time we go under a bridge or turn the wrong way. Why did they have to put it on the Bone instead of the Wolf which is a much better signal?

It's only preseason. 2) It's on a saturday night..rare for an NFL REGULAR season game 30 They are playing in Seattle a 2 hour difference .
Ch.21 will reshow it on sunday. Ch.11 will have it tonight. The Bone will do okay.

At that time of night, you might get a pretty good signal on 1200 from WOAI... the blowtorch of the southwest.

Ha...how funny is that? LIstening to the Cowboys on a station from San Antonio cause the local signals are too weak

Hummmm, maybe the Ticket pulled a hamstring and will have to ride the stationary exercise bike on camera for a while......

What they should have done is signal swapped The Ticket and KLIF. There wouldn't be any problem then............They're also putting the game on 1700 for you guys north of 635.

So which is the actual flagship station? The bone claims to be the official home of the Cowboys, but the Ticket does as well. But now 1700 will have to be something right? Are there any other markets like this? People will definitely be pissed when we have Sunday night games. Oops! I forgot Monday night. So get your bone up: providing that you have a good antenna.

Re: This isn't cool at all - or is it?

I've often wonder just how important it is for radio stations to broadcast the games. Of course there are bragging rights and image enhancement and some revenue to be made from pre-& post game shows, but how many sports fans actually listen to the games on radio? Do you actually turn down the TV sound and listen to the radio play-by-play? I personally don't like the radio spots playing while watching TV commercials. Yeah, it's the time to grab some more munchies and beer, or hit the bathroom, but it's still an irritant for me. And judging by the lack of traffic on DFW streets when the Boys are playing, there aren't many sports fans listening to the games in their cars.
I know stations have to pay a lot for broadcast rights. Is it really worth it? Didn't The Ticket already have all the sports identity they needed?
And is it my imagination or have the Ticket guys reined in their Cowboys criticism a bit? Anyone know if there's been a corporate edict to not irritant Jerry Jones?
Enquiring minds want to know.

Well I definitely listen to the games on the radio, but that's only because I can't see the tv. I find football play-by-play extremely difficult to follow on tv. I do agree though, football isn't baseball. I highly doubt that a lot of people take their radios to football games like with baseball.

I believe that more fans do listen to the radio for football more then baseball and basketball because all the games (outside of preseason) are broadcasted nationally on television. And many fans rather turn on the radio to hear the local play-by-play guys (Brad Sham), then some national guys from Fox or CBS ........And yeah The Ticket and The Bone are both claiming to be the flagship, but since The Ticket is producing the pre-, post-, and halftime shows I would consider the Ticket the actual flagship. They list the 1700 signal as the Sherman affiliate. Yeah there are other markets that have sister AM/FM stations as co-flagships, matter of fact Washington DC (Redskins) have three spread across the city (2 AM/1 FM).

You really must be kidding now right? Nobody except radio heads and egotistical radio people would say they watch the game and listen to it on the radio. Haaaaa.....Haaaaaa ;D ;D

Any measurable radio listening for games is in the car. That's it.

The Cowboys attract a HUGE audience on whatever station they air on. It is absolutely worth it for The Ticket and The Bone to air the games.

Nary a word...

What I found interesting is that the Ticket isn't promoting Brad and Charlie (plus the amazing Kristi). I realize that those 3 work for the Cowboys but with a new team in the booth (Charlie instead of Babe) you think the actual broadcast team would be worth a 40 liner or a quick promo into the stop set.

I heard Rhyner use "New Jersey Con Man" on Friday. Of course there is nothing to criticize about the "Boys" just yet (save maybe for TO's lazy practice routine). Wake me up when it's mid-November and they're 5 and 6.

To some it makes a huge difference what station the games are on. I might have missed 10 games in the last 35 years or so that I didn't turn down the sound and watch. KVIL and KLUV got got lots of milage out of the turn down the sound deal.

Glad to hear the games will be on 1700. That tower is about a mile line of sight from my house.

How many other tx gophers out there turning down the tv sound and listening to the radio. YIKES!!!! ;D :D

Is it worth it to broadcast football games? Depends on the deal....some stations actually just sell the airtime to the team for the games, and the team sells all advertising...

does the station gain? Sure attracts men 18+ to the station and all the pre game and post game crap....

It used to be that the stations would pay a huge fee for the rights and then turn around and sell the commercial time in and around the games....that has been changing lately because the rights demanded by the owners have sky rocketed...seems to me some football team actually bought its own radio station this year...can't remember who, tho.

Cant be THAT critical to a station since the broadcasts have danced around from KRLD to KVIL (? yes?) to KLUV? to the Ticket (did I miss anything?)

Gee and sombody said you were some kind of radio expert... ::)
So it's gone from KRLD to KVIL (i.e infinity) then to KLUV (uh, Infinity again) when the guy identified with KVIL and the Cowbys went to KLUV...Think that was sheer coincidence?

And now it's gone to the Ticket. So 3 stations in approximately 15 years. Yeah, that's REAL dancing around isn't it? I don't remember exactly when it went from KRLD to KVIL but I think it was late 80's...Which means infinity held if fro ALL the 90's and half thi sdecade...
