LANCE ZERLEIN IS IN AT ESPN 790 - getting paid 240K+ he'll apparently be teamed with Kenny Hand - he posted on his blog at chron.com but his lawyer told him to take it down.

Evening shift to fill the new local slot Ralph Cooper turned down?

That's too bad. I thought Zerlein would go with 1560 to be paired up with his long-time partner Granato. It will be interesting to see how he and Kenny Hand will work. Kenny is a good sports guy, but doesn't have near the personality of Granato. It was Granato's personality that enabled Zerlein. For $240K CC might be getting hosed. Zerlein's antics won't work with the dry Hand. And why would you pay any personality that kind of scratch and NOT have them in drive time? or daytime? Listenership is so low after PM drive, especially on the AM side. I guess when you look at the other CC AM moves, especially on 9-5-0, you could say, "par for the course". Anyone want to give Michael Berry an over-under on his tenure at CC as AM PD.

If this is true we can only say best wishes. If true the Houston cluster can look for a very ugly holiday season!

Dick Nixon...nice moniker!

I will set it at 17½ months.

I'd take the under on that. After a couple of books in the tank and major revenue losses across the board, if Berry's still on board at 18 months, then they are just taking their time digging his hole in the desert.

240 K? ???

Where did they get that figure?! Good God, no wonder CC can't afford to do an all news station, they are way overpaying for average talent on their fledging sports station.

Why would C C pay Lance what is claimes when he barely made 75K at CBS. And at that he was way over priced. Lack of talent, lack of personality, loads of ego.

The "river of blood" alluded to in another post must have hit the "news" department at KTRH, Supertalk 740, pretty hard. No overnight local news at all anymore, just ABC news and traffic and weather provided by third parties. We'll see if the old standbys are there Monday morning, or if they're gone too.

Newsradio, indeed.

Bulletin:

500 mice of the 50000 mice that keep the KTRH transmitter going have just been let go, this was strictly a bussiness decision according to CC mgmt!

The mice were seen 20 minutes ago talking to 103.7 mgmt!

I needed a good laugh!

Have a good day!

News... yes.

And traffic.

And sports.

And board ops.

Yep.

After reading this I called a friend at CC who said this info is incorrect. He said they made a run at him but didn't end up with him. He's pretty high up the chain over there so I'm trusting him. I met John and Lance a couple of times over at Ticket Attractions remotes (both for March Madness contest) and they were great to the listeners on and off the air. I didn't find either guy to have any type of ego problem. In fact, I've gone to several radio events over the years and they were the most down to earth I've seen out in public. A far cry from Charlie P. and Rich Lord when they were on together at 610. You want to talk about egos. Wow!

I hope that's true. Granato and LZ definitely have the on-air chemistry that I really don't think LZ would have with anyone else. Others may bash LZ, but with Granato he's excellent, but most of all entertaining. KILT-AM will really be kicking themselves if they aren't already about losing them. Their new morning team is like a 5-day, 4-hour-a-day boring Houston Texans infomercial. Wait until they see the first couple of PPM books soon. It won't be pretty for KILT-AM. Prediction: more heads will roll at CBS.
