This Just In...

Strange newscast tease heard this morning on WDBO: "We don't know much about that hit-and-run last night in Altamonte Springs. More in six minutes..." More what? Things you don't know about?

I'm not sure how you can be "following breaking news" when an incident already happened. At that point, aren't you just "reporting"?

Later, they were "learning more about" another story. Apparently, they had just discovered it on the Orlando Sentinel web site where I had read it two hours before.

and even sadder, the only reason the sentinel had it was because an intern heard it on the scanner and posted it.

the sentinel newsroom is nearly as empty as any radio cluster.

Today, a report in the morning indicated that a child had falsely reported being the victim of an attempted sexual assault. (I'm not sure why that fact should be of interest to me or any other listener, but far be it from me to nitpick.)

However, the station continued to report that one bare fact all day long. Finally, late in the afternoon, it was augmented by information that no charges would be filed. Against whom? The child? The non-existent attacker? Me, for saying such unkind things?

In truth, I like the station and listen for much of the day while I'm on the road.

the stuff they put into newscasts on the radio is laughable.

i work in news business and i will be driving in on a monday and i will hear some radio reader's top story that is actually two or three days old.

Oh good grief. Cut 'DBO some slack. Last I heard Marsha and the gang are down two. They're on FM now so they're in it for the long haul.

All right, but that doesn't explain why a nighttime shooting at a bar near UCF needed to be flogged the entire next day (at least until 6:15 P. M., when I stopped listening). The only facts presented were as follows: someone was shot and the victim doesn't know who did it or why. Oh, and a musician who was playing there said that someone was shot and people scattered. That's it.

Scott was probably hanging on, hoping the NBA would resolve their differences with players and there'd be a game at the arena. Back to radio, was 1.8 what the Cox elites thought FM news would bring them (while dropping 1.2 on the AM side)? WHTQ's demise did benefit WMMO ... but Mix and Sunny scored on the change too.
