This MUST Be A Mistake

This MUST be a mistake: the FCC has announced an FM Auction, and there's NOT a new channel on Cape Cod or the Islands! There MUST be an unused channel somewhere that can be shoehorned into this already "overradioed" market. Somebody isn't even trying.

Exactly--between reg. stations and translators, more than enough stations. Maybe they figure they can
sell a lot of advertising what with all the tourists who visit the area. Heck, there's even a country station
there (103.9) so apparently the Kennedy Compound is now the Circle K Ranch :)

As someone who lives on the cape, I'll say that even though there seems to be lot of stations - they must be doing ok as the quality of programming is pretty good. Most of the music stations I would prefer over similiarly formatted Boston stations. Heck, Boston doesn't even have two commercial stations with in house newsrooms, but the cape does (WQRC and WXTK) and they have some amazingly dedicated and good reporters/anchors for a small market.

Most of the Boston stations don't come in all that well on the cape so there is definitely an opportunity being filled.

Yes, there are a lot of ads for tourist type destinations - especially restaurants.

I'd guess that the only place where they might be an open spot on the Cape for a new class A allotment would be Nantucket.

YEP--According to the FCC's class A channel finder there are four commercial class A channels left there-get going guys!

Channel 226 ---- 93.1 MHz
Channel 230 ---- 93.9 MHz
Channel 244 ---- 96.7 MHz
Channel 278 ---- 103.5 MHz

(ads for Cape restaurants--Jingles):
"Who's making pancakes as fast as he can? The Pancake Man..."

"...that's what we're here for. At the Lobster Claw restaurant, great dining by the sea. At the Lobster Claw
restaurant, we're one big family..."

Hey...I ate there once! They served so-called "twin lobsters"! Well, not only weren't they twins, they weren't even related!
