This must be a weekend thing at WFAA

Or maybe just a Saturday issue. Back in February I posted about the problems with Channel 8's 6PM news that particular Saturday, which was absolutely awful. This time the newscast itself was basically OK, but there were two instances of the dreaded black screen. The first lasted about ten seconds, prior to the first commercial in a break about halfway through the newscast. No big deal, things happen.

The second time it happened was pretty funny, actually. I can only assume they were running a little late. Following a short blurb from Joe Trahan about what was coming up in the sports segment the screen went black for about five seconds until the commercial started. During those moments you could hear Joe asking, "was that quick enough?" This was immediately followed by the sound of paper being crumpled! Priceless.

I have that on my DVR. I might upload it to YouTube.

Sounds like problems in Master Control with the automation/server for commercial breaks. Nothing the newscast control room can do about that. Separate things.

I understand that. But leaving a mic open, or in the February incident, somehow letting the director's mic get on, and stay on the air is another story entirely.

Weekends are usually where they break in new folks ... so it's understandable in a way, particularly on a holiday weekend when someone was probably a fill-in for a fill-in.
