This poor working gal still needs a gig.

Not only do I desperately want to move back to the TC market to be closer to my family - my current company just announced they are selling.

Company buying my company is fond of Jones so who wants to guess what will most likely happen to the night gal (that's me)?

If you answered syndication, you are most likely right. Let's face it...it's usually less expensive to put on syndication than it is to pay a warm body plus benefits. And I don't get paid that much at all!

I've looked at almost every broadcasting company website in the area but so far, nothing has panned out. So if you have any inside info about a future opening in either on-air or production/imaging...planning on whacking your midday guy/girl anytime soon...please contact me. Info in my profile.

Ok...just got the ever important company e-mail...sale should be final in 60 days.

So I REALLY need to find my glamorous new position back in the good ol TC market ASAP. If you want, you can send me an email (addy in profile) and I'll tell you how I've got an adorable toddler that's addicted to pizza. Pizza man doesn't deliver for free, ya know.

Let me add that I've been looking for a new gig prior to the selling announcement. Majority of my family is in the TC area.

And finally, I'm format versatile. I like being myself on-air but if you need personalities - I've got a house full all living in my head. Crazy? No. Fun and entertaining? Yes.

Ok - that's all for now.

That's the quote of the century! Have you thought about getting a real job? I don't mean that as an insult, I was in your position 3 years ago (which also sparked my moving to Tennessee.) Then I wised up and decided to stop chasing that neon rainbow, begging for that $20,000 on-air gig and wondering if my next paycheck will be my last. If you are one of those that say "well, radio is all I've ever done" well that was me too. It wasn't long before I was making twice that in a new (much more secure) career.

Just some free advice, take it or leave it.

Yes, I have been thinking about getting a real job.

I'm not only both television and radio broadcasting certified, I have a business degree as well.

Office setting kills me though. I like being creative. I love radio but it does have it's negatives.

I'm not exactly sure what I'd do if I were not in radio or some fom of media. I wouldn't mind being a stay-at-home Mom but the Mr. of the house is also in media. Thankfully for him, he CAN work from home and moving is no problem for him.

Once you think about it...radio sure does have a lot of cons as opposed to it's minimal pros. There are no days or holidays off. Pay is minimal. You can never make everyone happy whether it be bosses or listeners. Benefits are very few and far between.

But alas, I love it. So sad, in that Lifetime movie "He beats me but I love him and gonna stay" sort of way.

I don't think anyone could've said it better than that, Jess! My parents don't understand why I stay in radio...they've been begging me for years to get a "real job" like being a lawyer or something. I am either too lazy or too stupid or something...or maybe I just love it. I can sympathize with your situation. Did Scott Onks ever get back with you about that midday slot on the Hog (WRZK)? They don't pay much (we both know this!), but it's a job.

No, Scott never called back. I'd guess things either got hectic with the HVBC changes or they just plain didn't think that I was a right fit for the position.

Isn't Reggie at XBQ about retiring age? They need a chick on the Q!

;D

Jessica-
One thing you have to do with HVBC with stuff like that is stay on them. Until they tell you no, check in periodically and see what's going on. It may be this way in other places, too, but that whole thing about "out of sight, out of mind" plays into it. I know Scott has been pulled in 10 million different directions lately. Hopefully, it'll let up on the guy now that they've hired a PD for WTFM. But unless it's the fact they just want a guy in that position, I don't think it's because you're not good enough. You're airchecks sound great and I think you'd be a fine addition to WRZK.
As far as Reggie is concerned, I don't really know if he's ready to retire or not. My wife is pretty good friends with him, but I have only met him once and that was in like 1993 or 1994. But yeah, I think he's been at XBQ since about 1980 or so. Long time.
Keep your head up. You've got the talent and things will work out!

I like Reggie too. I've met him before as well and he is a super nice guy. Thus my gapped-tooth smiley face before.

I have been emailing Scott but I'm afraid that I'm going to seem more like a pest rather than a potential employee.

It's hell not being able to do what you want to do for a living.

Worse, if I did get a "real job" it'd probably be in some form of media relations or human resources.

MSHA is looking for a human relations person but I don't possess all the qualifications for the position.

It really sucks to be a college graduate, furthermore a college graduate with honors, and still not qualified to do diddly-squat. To think, all I use to pray for is a full-time on-air gig. ::)

Boy do I know that feeling! What exactly did I go to college for? You are so right!

Well, why would you want do anything else, anyways? Yeah, there's a lot of bad stuff about radio, but free CD's, T-shirts, concert tickets...you can't beat it! Seriously, I know there's a lot of negatives, but it's all I have ever wanted to do. And I feel like I could be doing more in radio, but at least it's radio. I could be unemployed...there's always worse things, like working in a bookstore (trust me...I did it for three months last year).

I love radio too but I also like to have a roof over my head, being able to afford my mommy-mobile minivan and the sporadic trip to Outback Steakhouse.

We'll see what happens.

Thanks for all the support and feedback.
