Related to "the ads attached to a barter segment" - who usually attaches them: the content-provider, the radio station and/or the radio network.

When your station receives barter content - does the content provider usually attach the ads (the barter segment comes pre-attached); or does your station usually have to attach the ads (i.e. by your traffic or continuity department)?

This question came up in the context of - a 3:00 minute barter segment that runs on radio stations during an ad block.

On MY show, the stations get to play the spots anywhere they want within a certain window of time. About half of my stations elect to play the program and spot together

Thank you upndownthedial for the information! I really appreciate the response!

The short answer is "yes". It all depends on the barter agreement between the station and the provider. Some providers insist that the spot(s) run adjacent to the program, others will allow you to run the spot(s) anywhere within a specified daypart. Some will come with the spot premixed with the program, other times the spot(s) need to be shipped/downloaded separately. At my station we have a segment that comes with spots attached to the end of the program but don't necessarily have to air adjacent. Due to time constraints we lop the spots off and air them elsewhere. The bottom line: read the fine print and do whatever you need to do to keep those pesky network compliance types from sending you nasty-grams (short of fudging CPs, of course!).

Peace.
