THIS TV Coming To WPIX

With the news that their parent company Tribune has signed a long-term affiliation agreement to carry THIS-TV on the digital signals of some of their channels, the network has also gained new markets including New York City. The article below does not say as much, but you'd have to think that THIS-TV is going to be on one of WPIX's digital subchannels.

I wish they carried RTV (Retro Television) instead. I watched THIS TV a few times on WTXX while in CT and I wasn't at all impressed with the programming.

You mean the largest city in America hasn't had RTV and This? They've had those channels in Rooster Poot, Mississippi for a couple of years now.

Technically, New York City has RTV, if you consider WSAH/Bridgeport, CT part of the NYC DMA.

THIS TV is like the poor man's movie source. For those that can't afford digital cable and can't afford Netflix. Though it wasn't so bad on channel changing: the movie selection includes some titles that were on Encore a couple years ago, though with commercials.

I get RTV on WFMZ. RTV doesn't have a crisp PQ or quality sound, and has a bug on the screen, and the commercials are annoying.

It was because WPIX reserved the digital channel space for a Spanish language service: Estrella TV

Primarily because NYC is one of the top Hispanic markets.

That channel will be 11.3. This is will Cablevision carry it?

I don't know about Cablevision.

I wonder if Tribune can keep the same configuration for WPIX as WPHL, with THIS TV on .2, and carriage of Estrella (on .3). Philadelphia is the 19th largest Hispanic market, and larger than some of the clearances that Estrella has already, so would be a gain for the network. The other choice for digital subchannels would be WMCN (Atlantic City), though WMCN's signal doesn't reach the Lehigh Valley which has a sizeable part audience of the Philadelphia Hispanic market.

I don't know about Cablevision.

In central NJ, Cablevision carries estrella via 11.3, on channel 194 (found by tuning in - it's not on their web page's channel lineup.) Hopefully, they'll just keep on carrying 11.3.

So is This TV going to replace Estrella on 11.3? Is there currently an 11.2, and if so what's on it?

Up until last fall, WPIX's second subchannel (11.2) was LATV, with Estrella at 11.3. WPIX reversed the arrangement around that time. LATV (a really bad channel, IMO) has been off 11.3 for several months now, and that is where This TV has been slotted.

BTW, it's been here for about two weeks now.
