This week's first Ayla Brown/American Idol update

Well, there's good news and potential bad news for Ayla.

The good news is that Ayla kicked some butt. She did a great job and Randy, Paula, and even Simon were very impressed. They did recommend, however, that she work on her "mechanics", saying that she seemed kind of robotic in her moves. She seemed fine to me. ;o)

For the first time, the AI cameras actually showed mom, Gail Huff, in the audience. We saw Gail 3 times and the last time for a good 10 seconds or so. I note this because, for those living in a cave or under a rock or not paying attention, Gail Huff is a reporter in Boston for the ABC affiliate, WCVB-TV. We havent seen much of her even when she's there.

Now for the bad news: Fox25 is reporting, at least in their tease for their 10pm news (It's about 940pm right now), that Ayla's future on the show may depend on some upcoming political things in Massachusetts. That refers to Ayla's dad, Scott, who is a Massachusetts state senator. I'll post an update once the news airs.

The girls sang tonite, the guys sing Wednesday, and, once again on Thursday night, 2 girls and 2 guys will get voted off the island.

Wait, I said that last week. On Thursday, 2 guys and 2 girls...ummm...get booted out of the Big Brother house. Nah, I'll stick with the island.

Fox25 story

According to Fox25, Ayla's dad, Mass. Senator Scott Brown, is a potential running mate for Lt Gov Kerry Healey who has declared herself a candidate for Governor. The implication of the story is that Healey might feel that the spotlight on Ayla may overshadow the campaign and its issues. Yeah, right.

Scott Brown was interviewed and said that's foolish. Healey was not interviewed but her campaign manager issued a statement saying that Healey is a big fan of the show.

Much ado about nothing, I'd say.

Re: Fox25 story

The primary's not until September.

Few people pay attention to state politics until a couple of days before the elections anyway.

State Senator Scott Brown will still have three-and-a-half months to campaign for the Republican nomination for Lt. Governor if his daughter Ayla is one of the final two contestants on "American Idol 5" and doesn't officially declare his candidacy until after Ayla's run with the show is completed. Should not affect his aspirations for the number-two elected office in Massachusetts other than the timing of his candidacy.

Re: Fox25 story

An article in this morning's Boston Globe has the story as well. It mentions that Mom, Gail, is out there with Ayla this week. Should Ayla continue after this week's eliminations, an aunt will head to California to stay with her for the duration of the season (late May) or for however long Ayla remains in the competition.

Yes, but the candidates start fundraising months and months before the primaries.

She's not going into the Final. She'll be done way before then.
So far, all the finalists and winners have been from the South or Midwest(that's where most of AI's viewing base comes from and that's where the
votes come from). AI 5 should be no different. Since Ayla is from Northeast, odds are her run will end quickly.

Thursday Elimination Update

Ayla is not amongst the bottom 2 this week. She will be returning next week.

Currrent Idol Carrie Underwood is back tonite performing her current hit and, Im sure, will perform before the show ends. She sounds great and looks damned good!!

Randy Simon, who replied below, is more than likely right. Ayla has had a fairly privileged childhood and comes from the "big city" (ok, big town) while past winners have had some struggles in their lives (or so I read somewhere). Carrie Underwood was/is the down-home country girl, like current contestant Kellie Pickler. And isnt Kellie the sweetest little thang!

Anyway, Ayla moves on for now. Tune in again next week.

Re: Fox25 story

Wasn't "American Idol 1" runner-up Justin Guarini from Philadelphia??

That would make him, as far as I know, the only Northeast resident to ever made an "Idol" final sing-off.

Let Joseph Gallant sort out the facts...

Justin was born and lived most of his life in the suburuban Atlanta.
He was attending college in Philly at the time of AI 1 which technically
makes him a Northeast guest resident.

Re: Fox25 story

Thanks for the information on Justin Guarini.

Although I knew he wasn't born in Philly, I had until now assumed that he had moved there with his family while a youngster and grew-up there.

One great thing about Radio-Info.com is that if someone has a question, someone else will respond with a very informative answer.

Thanks again, Randy Simon!
