Thom Hartmann's Replacement?

For some inexplicable reason, Thom Hartmann has moved his show to the 12:00-3:00 PST slot, which means it can no longer air on Clear Channel's KTLK 1150, which is where Randi Rhodes airs. The temporary replacement is a three-week series called Diverse LA, which according to the press release, will "examine issues of special concern to African American, Latino, Asian American and other communities." and sounds like an absolute snorefest. Earlier, they replaced the very good syndicated Wall Street Rap with the mind-numbing David Cruz show, which is bound to increase traffic accidents in LA as drivers doze off during afternoon drive.

Anyway, does anyone have a line on the permanent replacement in this slot. Will it be Ed Schultz who currently airs at this time, but not in the LA market?

In the NYC market, on 1600 WWRL, Hartmann's move simply means he'll air live rather on delay. WWRL carries Schultz live at Noon E.T., Hartmann at 3pm and Rhodes by delay at 6pm.

So it seems for Progressive Talkers, only Rhodes and Hartmann are currently competing, with Mike Malloy overlapping with Alan Colmes for a couple of hours. (I'm not sure when Norman Goldman or Leslie Marshall do their shows live.)

But here's what I know about the live shows (E.T.) for Progressive Talk Hosts...

6 - 9am: Bill Press (Dial-Global)
9am - Noon: Stephanie Miller (Dial-Global)
Noon - 3pm: Ed Schultz (Dial-Global)
3 - 6pm: Thom Hartmann (Dial-Global)
3 - 6pm: Randi Rhodes (Premiere)
9pm - Midnight: Mike Malloy (?)
10pm - 1am: Alan Colmes (Fox)

...Hartmann is still on Sirius/XM and both Dish Network and DirecTV, so he can still be heard and seen here. In fact, I suspect those outlets provided him with more SoCal listeners and viewers than KTLK did. Chump Channel refuses to promote KTLK at all, so some folks are surprised when they learn the station still carries progressive talk, and the signal, despite being a 50kW day/44kW night signal, is inaudible in the Antelope Valley at most times of the day...

Thom did have many callers from LA that he identified as KTLK listeners. What he will lose in LA will have to be balanced by gaining live audiences in more than three or more medium size markets. You can thank the Dodgers for KTLK's power of 50kw/44kw. KTLK (aka KXTA) was the Dodger station for awhile, but had to boost their coverage area in order to get the Dodgers to sign-on. The FCC granted the power increase, but to protect other stations, KTLK signal has to be directional, favoring west and southwest towards LA, OC and boats in the Pacific Ocean. Plus, IIRC Clear Channel also bought and turned off the 1150 in Morro Bay to do the deed.

He's also on Free to Air satellite. 97.0 W Russia Today and 123.0 W Free Speech TV.
