When you hear or run those NBC spots for My Name Is Earl, etc do you get the feeling you just walked into morning show hell and the first four people you met were Giovanni,Kim,Joanie, and Brian? If you've never heard them you won't know what I'm talking about.

I've heard them and I DESPISE them. They are so phony and calculated while trying to make you think you're eavesdropping on "regular" folks. They make my skin crawl.

Oh i know. then they start talking about "insider jokes" that the listner is like, PUKE. The only thing i like on that Coast show is Chuck the news guy.

Boy do I hate those commercials. I always wonder if I'm just jaded because I work in an advertising-related industry, but are there 20-something's out there going "wow, those people sound cool and like they have a lot of friends and THEY like the shows, I've gotta check them out!"?

That's why I listen to B101 and HJY. Paul and Al has alot of people on the show, but they blend well and everything flows together. On B101 in the morning they sound like real people rather than over rehearsed canned jokes. The people on both shows aren't afraid to laugh at themselves and I feel a connection with them. More like, they're people I'd go have a beer with, and I'd be cracking up the whole time.

Giovanni and Kim, Joannie and the Coasters, Gary and Heather ... it's all VERY forced and pretty phony ...

OK so we're equating those spots which are voiced by self absorbed people with aggravating speech mannerisms talking but not listening much to each other because they're too busy thinking of the next bad pun & thinking the most important thing going on in life is what's on TV tonight to morning radio teams. That's what I thought. Just clarifying.

Didn't Joannie and The Coasters do Yakety Yak?

I suppose the answer is that as long as people are listening then these shows are successful but let's face it. Unless you want rock, country, or classic hits in Providence you have to deal with what stations think the audience wants which is giddy foolishness unless wit that makes anyone laugh but the hosts themselves. Some CHR stations avoid it but AC just can't seem to. Half the time I hear Gio say something and almost expect Joan E to answer. Frankly I think Gary and Heather avoid the extremes. They may be super pleasant but it sounds more genuine. I think the Hot morning show avoids a lot of the silliness too. The other teams needs to be locked in a studio and forced to listen to those NBC spots over and over.
