Those satellite formats.....Jones, Dial-Global, and so forth...

Kinda curious...

Those satellite formats and companies...where are their studios located? Business offices are easy to find out but studios?

Jones I know is in Denver and ABC/SMN ( or whatever they call themselves now ) is/was based in Dallas. Broadcast Programming (whats left of it ) was in Seattle. Where is Dial-Global located at as far as their studios goes?

Also I have heard that of all the jocks on these services, all of them are part-time as their shifts are shorter than the local jock and pretty much what you hear over the bird is voice-tracked and not live. True? Do these guys have high turnover rates?

The only experience I have (recently anyway) is with Jones, Which has been absorbed by Dial-Global. The Good Time Oldies format has had the same full time air staff, with one exception for the four years I've been dealing with them. The part time fill-in and weekend talent tends to turn over more frequently. The jocks have other duties beyond the "Airshift" as well: recording liner sets for affiliates comes immediately to mind... I also got a call from one "jock" who was surveying affiliates about the service. I expect there may be other hidden duties as well. Whether there is voice tracking going on, I would expect there is not judging from occasional error I hear.

I don't know about recent years, but when the Dial Global formats were part of Westwood One, they were all live 24/7 and used carts/CDs.

Some of Jones Radio's formats were live and others were voice-tracked. I think the Classic Country had some voice-tracking and I know that the Smooth Jazz was voice-tracked 24/7 with jocks from home studios in various parts of the country.

I'm pretty certain the WW1 formats used some tracking in the last years before being taken over by Dial-Global. There was Mainstream Country affiliate not too far away that sounded pretty bad, even when on the bird. They're now with DG oldies I think.
