The Southgate Amateur Radio Club e-news had a neat item today.....
A link to all the old Radio Shack catalogs!:

http://www.radioshackcatalogs.com/catalog_directory.html

Browsing thru the ones from the 1960's, it was interesting to see how many brand-name manufacturers they carried....even things like McIntosh audio gear. Never knew the original prices of those sought-after "antiques" until now.

Enjoy!

What a bunch of cheap crap.
Thanks for the memories, kenglish! I've passed the link to a number of my friends.

Still have and use the Optimus speakers I bought in 1973!
They are actually still are very good sounding.
Way better than those that came with a fairly expensive surround system.

Ah...good old days indeed!

Grich's relaxing September Saturday afternoon as a teen in the 70's:
-Brand new Radio Shack catalog...if not available yet, Dad's Grainger catalog was a good substitute.
-Radio tuned to Lyell Bremser calling Nebraska football on KFAB
-Jethro Bodine-sized bowl of Wheaties with a pound of sugar for a snack ;D

Perused the 1974 catalog, from when I was a Radio Shack manager. Thanks for the memories. Oh the prices! Oh the selection! Those were the days. The electrostatic speakers I bought with one of my first RS paychecks are still going strong in my living room lo these many years later.

I owned movie theatres for over 20 years. Radio Shack did have a lot of cheap crap (along with some quality). In every small town we were dependent on that local store for emergencies. I once had a dead short on an amplifier in a location in a small Alabama town on a Saturday afternoon. Of course due to my friend Mr. Murphy, the short took out the horn diaphragms on the two stage speakers it was feeding. I happen to be at that location when it happened... grabbed my checkbook and went over to the local mall RS. I purchased to of those really heavy, small Optima speakers and a stereo PA (public address) amplifier. I had the movie back on the screen before the next showtime.

Basically, there have been many times over the years when in radio and movie theatres that RS saved my rear. Those were the days.

I remember, as a kid, looking forward to the R.S. catalog that came a month or so before Christmas. I also recall a DAK catalog with some interesting items.

I still have a set of Minimus 7 speakers in my office. Small, sound great, but weigh a ton. dropped one on a foot ouch!.

I also recall a DAK catalog with some interesting items.

I think DAK has resurfaced.

I loved reading the article/product descriptions, almost a full page of text for each item.

I purchased my first three head cassette deck from DAK. It was cheap.
