Thoughts and prayers for Mix 92-9's Sarge's surgery Monday AM

I debated on whether to post this, but I figure when you need a bunch of prayers and positive
thoughts, why not come to the source of dedicated and passionate radiophiles...

Mix 92.9's Bryan Sargent is having triple bypass surgery early Monday morning here in Nashville.
Bryan's been on the block here for over 25 years, he may be one of the top two or three
most known, long term radio names in Music City. Not only is he an incredible talent and seasoned
professional, he's just a fantastic gentleman I am honored to call a true friend. So, maybe those who
know him or listen to him could post some comments, stories or get well thoughts, etc.,
and I'll read them to him on Tuesday or Wednesday when I get to see him after the surgery.

And, today, I forgot to promise him I'll try and make sure that "Escape" (The Pina Colada song) gets proper daily
airplay during his absence. (For those who may remember the hundreds of posts about that being one of
the worst songs still being played on Mix 92-9 and yet it tests like it was a hit yesterday...)

Thanks in advance!

Bryan is indeed an institution, and a great air personality. Sorry to hear about his surgery. I guess he will be off the air for a while. If anyone KNOWS how he is doing, please post it here.

Thanks.

Bryan was kind enough to give me a job at WLAC-FM when others around town wouldn't. I must also give recognition to JJ Austin for introducing me to Sarge. He's a class act and a true proffesional. After 106 imploded,we saw each other at Bellevue Center (not too hard to do) and we set up a dinner together. I love the guy because he can be so anal (I truly mean that as a compliment) when everyone around him is crazy. But the secret here is Sarge is as crazy as any of us,he just hides it better than most. Godspeed Bryan,I'm sure there are prayers being said all over town and God's getting an earful. But one question-How in the hell are you getting bypass surgery before me? I've lived a lot lower than you and I would think it's my time to pay the piper-shows that life is strange I guess. Thanks for giving me the shot on 106 and making it possible to meet Phil. Otherwise I'd probably be back in Wichita,Kansas by now. You will be in my prayers tonight Big Kahuna.

Never met him, but heard of him. He's been around as long as I have, and that's a long time.... and to Johnny b... no, I"M supposed to have the bypass first. Of course, Cody beat us both, but escaped without the bypass.

Please pass my best on to Sarg. I had the privialge to work with him for a very short time and discovered for myself what a class act he is. I will most certainly include him and his family in my prayers.

Bryan is one of the most 'small market' friendly people in a 'larger market' type of talent.. Rare bread that incouraged me in Junior College to go for it... He was open to helping me find financial support for the building of Way-Fm in Nashville, when I moved there to head up the development for that Christian Network....Bryan offered me a great job, while in JUCO and I turned it down to finish that AAS degree (no regret there, but regret I never worked for him at WKYX in Paducah in '79).... He was a great 'feedback' guy when I worked an hour up the road at WCIL-FM/Rockinradio in Carbodale... My positive prayers to Bryan and the surgery!
I really loved how he programmed KX-104 in the early 80's.... ;D

Bryan made it through with flying colors and was considered on "the fast track" of turn-around
time, so he should be yelling at me for bringing attention to him by morning. Let's hope for
continued progress.

Thanks for all the posts, keep the stories coming. He'll love this and may even be cussing me
for doing this in mere hours.

Sarge is one of the good guys of our local broadcast community. I had the privilege of working with him twice at WLAC. May he make a quick recovery and God be with him and his loved ones at this time.

Sarge is one of a few people that I think of as a mentor in my career. I worked with Sarge in the last year of Star 105.9 and then again with him at Mix 92.9. I have always admired his on air talent of sounding friendly and entertaining while being brief at the same time. He has given me great advice over the years! If you've ever worked with Sarge, you know he's going to make sure everything is in place. That's refreshing in the genreal chaos of radio. Feel better Sarge! You'll be in my prayers.
