Thoughts During The Saints Radio Broadcast

Bobby Hebert is the biggest "nothing" that has ever been forced down the throats of the N.O. sports fans. All the hype and the "Cajun Cannon" crap can't change the fact that he's boring and bland and a broadcast straw man. Does anybody really care what a NFL/WFL flash in the pan thinks? Who's next? John Fourcade?

Kaare Johnson should not do commercials. He's bad enough with his whiny voice, but, listening to his car hype commercials, he sounds like he's on acid and just gets louder and crazier-sounding as the commercial progresses. A born tune-out who can thank his father that he's not selling insurance.

Five hours of Vince Marinello on WWL from 7-midnight recently was 4.75 hours too long. Nice guy but his "yat-ness" gets real thin, real quick.

And just now hyping an advertiser during a time out. Wasn't that Kenny "Who?" Wilkerson? Who? I already forgot. ZZZzzzzzzz.

God help WWL with this crew if the Saints leave and take their broadcasts with them. The Voodoo are gone for now and the Hornets may hike it to OKC too.

As New Orleans becomes a pro sports desert, what will these people have to pontificate about for endless hours a day, that listeners will even care about?

I hope they're paying Garland well and can hold on to him, for their own sake.

Oh, for the good old days when the Saints were young and fun, and all I did was enrich corrupt pd's with gifts for favors...

Another Thought

Since radio stations seek out washed up football players to "broadcast", why don't football teams seek out washed up radio broadcasters to play?

Re: Another Thought

That wouldn't work b/c the ones with talent & experience will be edged out by little Steve Urkel soundalikes who will play for $1000 a month and free food coupons. Then the consultants will tell the GM's "our focus group doesn't want to see the forward pass. Just hand off the ball every play."

Re: Another Thought

Consultants are wonderful, aren't they?! I found this on a website by Bob Walker. Understand this:

"In radio, as in all other businesses owned and operated by out of town outfits today, there are snakes who are welcomed to slither into the picture. These snakes are called "consultants."

There is an old saying: "Those who can, do. Those who can't, consult." How true.

Consultants are the bullshit artists of the business. They are hired by investment property owners who know nothing about radio. These ignorant owners are easy prey for consultants, and welcomed by them.

Once hired, the consultant has to do something to justify his paycheck. He has to have "a better way" even if the station is already hugely successful. So he will immediately be dissatisfied with air personnel and programming and implement "his way."

Then, routinely, the station weakens. After a couple of years of damage, the consultant-snake takes his money and slithers on to another ignorant owner in another city, leaving his ignorance-induced damage behind. What does he care? He bullshitted them into a couple of years of a paycheck. And you can routinely back them into a corner if you know more about your market and its music than they do. But they barrage you with crap "statistics" as they sing the Siren's song to the owners.
