Thoughts of Atlanta DJ and Balloons

Seeing this balloon episode up in Colorado makes me remember a radio stunt gone wrong in Atlanta back in the 90's. I remember about 14 years ago in Atlanta there was this whole thing about a Atlanta DJ being tied to a couple of weather balloons and floating around Atlanta. The idea was when he landed the first person to appoach him was to receive David Bowie tickets(I think). The story was that he got picked up by some wind and got carried all the way up to North Carolina. Does anyone remember this? What station was it? What DJ was it and more important was it real.

Jimmy Baron on 99x. I never believed it to be true. More like that theater of the mind stuff. Never saw any photos but hey you never know.

We did the same thing at 96rock but with a kitty... Regular Guys said they put a kitty in a basket tied to balloons... animal activists actually bought it. Amazing.

I remember that stunt...but seem to recall them (Morning X) using blow-up dolls instead of weather balloons (undoubtedly Crash Clark's idea).

The balloon story caused a flurry of balloon songs and stories all over the Atlanta radio dial today: The Bull morning show, Mara's Radio-Free Lunch, The 2 Live Stews and others.
