WKNY in Kingston has an oldies show that airs from noon to 4 each Saturday afternoon, and starting with the first Saturday of 2014 has been doing a countdown of the top 1,490 oldies of the rock era (for 1490 AM)....which means essentially 5 and some odd months of no requests, and also no repeats.....an interesting countdown but also features a lot of mid 50's stuff that most people don't particularly have an ear for. Any opinions on this whole idea?

You just said it all right there. I was listening a few weeks back and some old rat packer song from the fifties( sinatra or dean martin) was followed by an upbeat sixties song. Bad segue. Don't know what parameters Warren used to compile this list. He always has a nice mix during the 70's lunchbox show which I have been known to add to with my forgotten 70's requests.
The parameters are Billboard top 1,490 oldies from '55 - '79. First in order of where they peaked, then in order of how long they stayed at that peak. The segues are often not smooth, but it wouldn't be genuine to mess with the order just for easy listening....this is part of the point of my original post.
Incredible as it may seem, Dino and the Ambassador (Louis Armstrong) each went to number 1 in 1964 - Dino with "Everybody Loves Somebody Sometime", and the Ambassador with "Hello Dolly". Gotta take what you don't like with what you do like when it comes to a straight countdown. You might be surprised by the number of young people who think those two records rock. The Ambassador had a hit with "What a Wonderful World", in 1967 I believe it was.

I've been listening to WKNY's "Top 1,490 Songs of the 50's, 60's and 70's" or the "Top 1,490 Songs of Al Time" for five months now, but last week, these song are in the 120's or the 110's. Are they going to make it to #1?
I hope WKNY needs a copy of the "Top 1,490" songs survey online in the future. Is there a link to where I can find the "Top 1,490" survey? If they don't, maybe WKNY will post a complete lists of songs that are on the "Top 1,490" which will be on that site soon. Check out the link:

WKNY is down to the Top 50. Next Saturday will be the final week of the countdown, yes we are going down to #1, and we have a listener contest to guess the whole Top 10 (or as close as they can get).
Why would we need a copy of the top songs in the future if we already have it now?

And after 6 months of doing the Top 1,490 songs on WKNY, the #1 song is 2 by Elvis Presley including "Don't Be Cruel" and "Hound Dog".
