Thoughts on Jay Mohr?

I LOVE the new show. He's such a breathe of fresh air for sports talk radio and far better than Rome, who is starting to sound a little pathetic still doing his "dude/bro" schtick at 50.

This is a lot of fun to listen to! I thought I would be switching back and forth between Mohr and Rome, but I have a 95/5 ratio in Jay's favor. It seems like it is way more "radio"-sounding, than Rome, if that makes any sense to anybody but me, and I find it very enjoyable.

Jay Mohr was always my favorite sub for Rome, though I did not know what was to come from him as a full-time gig. I can safely say he is exceeding my expectations by far to this point.

Does anyone remember Paulie, the 1998 film with Jay Mohr providing the voice of a conure? Paulie helped a little girl overcome her stuttering and, in exchange, she taught him how to speak perfect English. He wound up in a research lab and.....well, you have to see it. Hallie Kate Eisenberg, Buddy Hackett, Tony Shalhoub and Cheech Marin co-star. Mohr's voice-work as the bird who liked to insult everyone was classic!

I remember the movie was a complete disaster at the box office and with critics, and that in several "serious" interviews that Mohr has done over the years he has expressed regret over doing it and said he did it mainly because he needed the money after getting turfed out of Saturday Night Live.

Saw a blurb that his show might be simulcast on a new Fox Sports cable network starting this summer... will it still be on the air by then?

I didn't think anyone could be worse than Romeeeeeee but, Jay is.
Scott Ferrell. I couldnt listen to his show back in the early to mid 90's because of his voice and how bad he was then. why did CBS Radio think we wanted him back on a National Level in 2013

....until today. Mohr squarely lays the blame of the Boston bombings on the 2nd Amendment and says it needs to be abolished.

So, if guns were banned Jay, how exactly would that have prevented the tragedy?

<changes stations>

Does this mean we can stop praising Jay Mohr now? This thread is a bit nauseating. Anyone who's ever met Jay knows he can be insufferable. That said, he's a great talent. I hope his moment of realness doesn't sink his show. Unfortunately, his target audience has vastly different views.

I did not come to bury Jay Mohr, I only came to praise him (and nauseate others)!
Mostly because that's what I thought of his show.
Mea culpa. Now I realize he needs be exterminated. Or something like that. ::)

I guess because he's on a Fox Network, in this case their Sports Radio Network, maybe he's supposed to have the same right wing views as the Fox News guys. Whoops a liberal was hired !!! How'd he sneak in.

So what? Its a sports talk show. He dares to have a different opinion than some of his listeners, what a concept for a talk show. I don't agree with his sentiment on the 2nd Amendment, but I respect his right to have and voice his opinion. If that's all he talks about, then yes I'd be changing the station too, but hey it was a comment and he moved on to other stuff, I don't remember it being the main theme of his show, at least the day I caught him saying that [I don't listen every day so maybe I didn't hear the day the original post referred to]. Generally I like Jay's show, I prefer Rome's, and sometimes listen to Jim on CBS Radio, but Mohr's show has grown on me a bit, so I continue to check him out too [depending on who's topics interest me the most].

Frankly, he could just skip the political stuff, as there are plenty of other places to get that. Sports talk is a great break from the political rantings that air on so many stations and maybe with folks getting so burned out from political talk [I know I sure am burned out from political talk] I listen more to the various sport talkers in my area during my work day which include: 1290 WWTX Fox Sports Radio also for Balt Orioles and Ravens games, 610 WIP CBS Sports Radio, 97.5 WPEN the Fanatic for Philly centric sports talk, and 97.3 ESPN Radio, 94.1 WIP-FM for their Philly centric sports talk, and 1150 WDEL for Phillies/Eagles games. Getting political probably won't help his show and really doesn't add anything to it, but as long as its a side comment who cares.

Does anyone know how he is doing in comparison to Jim Rome? Jim Rome seems to have fallen off the face of the earth. Something tells me Rome will pack it in two years.

It pains me to watch many parts of Rome's Showtime monthly show. They added a studio audience so Rome can come out and do a live monologue, complete with very pregnant pauses, awaiting audience reaction. If Rome wants to bring a comedic aspect to his sports schtick, he needs to spend some time in the comedy clubs. Then it hit me. He's now trying to assimilate parts of Jay Mohr's act, and voila, Jay Mohr is trying to be Jim Rome. Hell has frozen over. I listen less and less to Rome's radio show. No LA station (ok I can pick it up on 1090, but many times they get back from breaks late, and it's just a slipshod way to run his show), and too many times there is too much regurgitation and self-congratulation on an interview etc.
