Thoughts on Kidd Chris' Debut in Morning Drive?

Wow, thought one of the most active forums on the board would have a take or two on it by now... So did Chris live up to the hype and deem worthy of taking on Preston & Steve, or did he play nine songs an hour like he's been doing?

I liked his afternoon show when I was in the car to hear it. I think he'll mop up the floor up with P&S.
 
I will take some time until we see if he is a serious threat to blowhards P&S but I sure hope so


I can not take Caseyboy anymore, with his "YEAHS" all morning... :D
 
The things I found irritating about Chris's show followed him from the afternoon drive to the morning drive.

The inside jokes, the condescending attitude, and the cackling that can only be compared with a pack of hyenas drive me up a wall, but I listen anyway because I am curious to know why he's got such a dedicated following.

Preston and Steve seem to have a friendlier rapport with each other and with listeners which is a big reason I'll always choose them over Kidd. That, and the laughter doesn't seem forced most of the time.

All morning shows suck anyway, though, which is why I'm happy I've got my iPod with me at all times!

I see your point, and it is very valid. However, I think it is things like the inside jokes that make his show unique from other shows. He goes there, which you would never hear P&S, or any other DJ do.

Yes P&S have a friendler show, but I am not sure whats worse, Kidd Chris's laugh, or the 25,000 sound effects being played all at once when someone gets the answer to the question of the day right. Not to mention there are about 10 people in the P&S studio, and everyone talking over one an other.

Now with all that being said. Why doesn't YSP drop the "A@@ rock" from the Kidd Show, and just let him be him? We get it. The rock is back. This is the same music being played on three other stations in the Philly market right now. Stop stuffing it down my throat.

I thought it was filthy and disgusting...as usual. How dare Chris ask if Andy Reid was on his son's heroin. Terrible and in poor taste. Larry Mendte is the only redeeming element of that show.

I'd much rather listen to Don & Mike.

So we can then assume that you don't listen to any comedians and/or comedy skit shows. They are all about poking fun of whats in the news. If you dont get the humor, then you probably are not in the demo anyway....

It was interesting to hear how Praise 103.9 (at least I think WPPZ, he just referred to it as the "Jesus Station") has been beating WYSP in mornings. I don't know any specifics, but thats was he said (He's been responding to questions about his apparent planned assault on Preston and Steve with saying about how he first has to rebuild his own station before attacking another).

To who made the remark about Kidd Chris 'goes there' when other DJ's and show hosts won't, he's exactly right. And that, for me at least, is something that draws me toward the Kidd Chris Show. He does things that no other DJ's would do. He references things that nobody else would even fathom bringing up. Chris pokes fun of dopey little things that radio hosts do, even including himself, but they have fun with it and its something you won't hear anywhere else..

I've been a big fan of Kidd Chris since he was on here in my town back in 2001... and have listened to him sense. This guy is a radio GOD..
