Thoughts on KWOD V 2.0 w/jocks after a month

Just some random thoughts and questions...

1) Do the "dry" beds make the talent seem "dry" to you? One thing it has done is lead to some bad habits forming. I've heard Hill on two occasions where she was obviously not using headphones, as she was played a commercial while still reading a piece, and then when she was done fired the next commercial element, leaving the other commercial short of time. Also, whenever she talks, she seems quiet, POD IT UP.

2) We got used to a firey Nick Monroe in the afternoon drive, but Jeremy just seems to not have any personality. He runs a tight board, and his shift sounds better than most on the station in terms of that (he's adopted well to talking dry from an audio standpoint) but his talk breaks are bland! He doesn't say ANYTHING!

3) I like the idea of having New Music Pods, where we hear about the artist of the new music before it's played... but can't the jocks talk up these records during live shifts, and not rely on a guy who owns a skate shop?

4) Walking a ramp once in a while is a good thing, but I have yet to hear one walked on the station.

5) The one time I tuned in to the morning show I heard them reviewing a book. Is this normal for the show? What is their target demo?

Musically, the ebb and flow is there of a AAA station with alternative elements, but the jocks just seem to be a step behind. As sad as it is to say (I love local radio), until things improve, I think the jockless station was better to listen to.

It's not easy working under a microscope. They're still adjusting to new equipment and a different kind of delivery. By the time the Fall book is in play they'll have it! Keep smilin' :)

They must be doing something right they were up significantly in the ratings

I think differing the playlist from 98 Rock, and killing off the active rock significantly helped KWOD, especially in the higher age demos. It will be interesting to see where the 18-34 goes for the fall book, but no doubt the 12+ numbers will be up significantly.

I put them under a microscope because things don't get improved until they are, that was what my broadcast management teacher hammered into me in College, and it rings true.

That is a really lame excuse for the fact that Entercom is getting to be as
tight with the cash as Clear Channel used to be, but at least CC is getting
better now! Remember the quality of your on-air talent is only as good as you spend the cash for. And KWOD is still taking themselves way too seriously. They need to lighten up and let the talent have some fun. It's only radio not rocket
science!

It's the music not the jocks!

I tuned into the morning show, and it seemed to me that they do absolutly no show prep. Everything is top of the head, but not clever. searching the internet while doing a break and talking 6 feet from the mic. Not a fan

Got to hand it to them, at least the station has jocks.

Oh Bob, where is your talent? Bob is starting to becoming boring.
______________

From the spots they've been airing, it sounds like KWOD is going jockless for the holiday weekend, guess it makes sense, since they as of now have no part timers.

P.S. I am available

hahaha

HAHA...welcome to local crappy radio...that's why we have Howard Stern....these guys just wanna be stars, but don't wanna put the time and effort into their shows...that station sounds too dead for me...after Howard Stern I listen to Sirius Satellite Radio...you GOTTA get it - it's well worth it!
Edited by braddacripple on 07/01/05 07:13 PM.

Brad:
Quite a few of your posts cover how "crappy" local radio is. What are you doing about it to make it better?
-salesslap

Seriously. The sun Rises with Howard Stern, and sets with Kidd Chris according to him. What kills me about the new jocks is before they were hired the sweepers said no more boring cheesy jocks..............did they not listen to their own sweeps? Day one I heard Hill desribe herself as H.I. Double Hockey sticks........I cringed and haven't listened since. Just waiting for some knock knock jokes at this point

Hey Brad...Someday, you might actually have a job in radio instead of allowing yourself to be exploited by Kidd Chris.

The schtick is beyond old now.

Be careful whom you burn. They might know someone you might want in your corner someday.

And what did YOUR morning show consist of, Mr. Professional Radio Air Talent?

Oh, wait -- I forgot...you were the third-string sidekick on a mid-rated evening show on a station that never drew FLIES, much less a decent rating (outside of Stern).

Well, if Sirius is "the second coming," kindly migrate to it. Permanently. Those of us trying to do decent radio here and elsewhere would appreciate it if folks like you would just go away quietly.

If you don't like it, leave. If you can't do anything to improve it, don't come across like some bitter, whining, "wish I was still employed" mark for shock radio. Man up, get over it and move on.

Don't forget to ask mom for money, too -- your monthly Sirius payment is due.
