Thoughts on Mix 104.1

When they first moved up the dial, I was less than impressed with their voice over imaging, kinda like a last minute throw together with no budget. I am very happy to say that this has since vastly improved!

It also seems like the music programming is much better now as well. I guess for a while there the station was starting to lose its edge and sounding rather stale, but that seems to have passed since the move to the new dial position for some odd reason. Maybe there is just better music out there now perhaps?

The new morning team: I just started hearing them in the morning, and while I still prefer JJ Wright on WODS, they are growing on me. I guess the thing is that Kennedy sounds like a 20 something or young teenager whereas Karlson sounds more like a regular radio announcer instead. Its kinda an odd mix (no pun intended,) but somehow it works.

Their show also seems to jump right into some type of quiz thing with Kennedy and some caller, who I cannot yet figure out if it is a regular person who is their everyday or someone else instead? Do forgive me on this as I am only half awake at 5:30 and it just seems to be blur. Anyway, it doesn't seem like they come back on the air again until 10 of 6 or so.

Those are my thoughts anyway. Do you think that the station has improved since the move or within the past year?

I hope you realize that JJ Wright doesn't do mornings on WODS (unless he is filling in). He does afternoons on WODS. Zito and Karen do mornings on WODS.

Oh thanks! He was filling in at one point then. Since I tend to be a very casual listener in the AM, I thought that he was the morning guy. ;) As you can tell, I am just an occasional observer, if I did this full time, I am sure I would be on top of this stuff. ;D

First, thanks for checking out the show. Funny that you think Kennedy sounds like a teenager but she actually graduated high school in 1989, I was the Class of '87! Our first break is at 5:30 (where you hear Can't beat Kennedy) which is played with a different listener everyday then we go to traffic, commercials, then back to music with two songs then our next break which is usually around 5:45. Oh, and there is no "L" in my name. ;D

You're up early.

Mix 104.1 may be Hot AC, but still heavy on rock. Not one of my presets. Their target audience obviously prefers more rock and less dance music. Whatever brings in the $. :)

Other than my annoyance with some songs pitched 2% and others not, Mix 104.1 is sounding pretty good. I was curious though... what happened to Mixfest 2009?! I don't think there was one. :( I went to Mixfest in 2000 and 2002 (2001 was canceled because of 9/11) and enjoyed it. Back then, there were a lot more acts too.

WOW, hey thanks for responding to my post, I did not know that you read here! Also, sorry about the misspelling of your name as well. I do like your show, it is just funny how Kennedy gets very excited sometimes! :)

Occasional observer with over 1,400 posts?

Ok, maybe much more than the casual observer as I love radio as much as you do. Its just that I am not working in the industry at all.

I think that a nice dance/rhythmic station (not Jam'n) would be nice in this city.

I still remember Mixfest '96, it was the first year that the station did the concerts exclusively. Then there was the year that Barenaked Ladies was at City Hall Plaza and 10's of thousands of people showed up. I wish I was there for that!

Ah, but let's not forget that a great deal of those 1,400 posts were spent talking about 80's music, right Retro? ;) 8)

Why yes Radiorama1, but remember such radio stations as WHTT, WBCN back in the day, WROR when they were CHR, etc.

I'm diggin' K&K and the afternoon team. Plus I've just discovered the Sunday morning acoustic show - very cool. I like this station.

104.1

Knock the rock!  Urban 104.1, Boston's TRUE Hip-Hop, R&B, and Old School is in the house!  Maybe also an R&B and old school slow jam request show from 8pm to midnight.  It needs to be 104.1 (Pru tower signal) so it will be loud and clear in all of Boston.8)  Jam'n who?

Check out WERS 88.9 Saturday and Sunday from 8-12. The secret spot has just that.

The Secret Spot is great but I want to hear it almost every night ( Legal side ), like in most American cities. Here in New England, Hartford CT Hip Hop station Hot 93.7 has a weeknight show like The Secret Spot. New Haven has Urban A/C 94.3 WYBC and Springfield MA has Smooth jazz/R&B 106.3 . Boston has well you know, Pirate urban stations.

I'm sorry but 104.1's processing sounds like nails on a chalkboard to me, and it bugs me how some songs are pitched and some aren't. Someone needs to fix this, it just makes the station sound small market and like they don't have their act together. We're in a Top 10 market. Come on CBS. Do they think compressing the audio to death sounds good? Because I'm the first to say it doesn't.

I agree, I like Mix 104.1 but the EQ there is awful. I should go there and teach them how to do it right lol. Just listen to my internet station for example, it has the best sounding Processing of any internet station I have ever heard and i'm not just saying that because I run it.
