Thoughts On "Parker/Spitzer"?

CNN's newest idea from now-former boss Jon Klein debuted last night. According to one review, one reason the show might not succeed is due to the taped nature of the show:

"None of it is live, which matches Bill O’Reilly but no other cable news prime time show. While O’Reilly is pre-taped, it doesn’t feel edited. Several time throughout Parker Spitzer, jump cuts are clear in the middle of interviews – it’s a jarring news viewing experience..."

The same author notes that both Kathleen and Eliot "both compelling television personalities", so maybe the show has a chance.

The overnight cable news numbers are released later today. I'm anticipating a sharp dip as the week progresses, as is likely with any new program.

I guess the lack of response to this thread is due to lack of an audience. The numbers were not great for the first night. You'd think there would be a "curiosity" boost.

As "D" referenced, the one thing that stands out to me is they tease upcoming segments with the actual footage, which completely takes away a "live" feel. Perhaps they don't care, but their competition is live, (or atleast pretends to be).

The other thing is the "sitting around the kitchen table" look and the very harsh lighting. Don't care for it.

Perhaps the most interesting element is the hosts are trying hard not to show their politics TOO blatently, afterall this IS CNN.

On the positive side, the hosts and guests the first two nights atleast seemed to quite intelligent.

Mind you, it's CNN, which is currently trailing two even more blatant political cable news networks and sister station HLN in many categories. I guess it can't hurt when there's nowhere to go (or hope to go) but up.

Unfortunately, as referenced in the above post, the show debuted dead-last in its time slot on Monday night:

Interestingly, while it gained 25-54 and 35-64 viewers following its lead-in, "John King, USA," it had about 17,000 total viewers less than "King."

I can't find any sources, but WCBS 880 did mention some reviews from the New York papers the other day. Let's just say they were none too flattering!
