Thoughts On Rover's Debut On WMMS?

I figured there would already be a thread on this by now... Does the show sound any different than it did on K-Rock? Or is there some sort of CC-influence bogging it down?

Well I tuned in to listen but gave up after 13 minutes in a row of commercials.

So I guess Rover wants to be Triv when he grows up. You'd think Clear Channel would want to give out a little bit more of their new product before selling out every possible minute during the first week.

WMMS has new billboards on the digital signs. "We got a pair. Rover Mornings, Maxwell Afternoons" with their faces and the logo in the center.

I noticed "Rock, Not Talk" has popped up on some of 92.3's imaging as well.

Actually, he's playing just about the same amount of commercials on MMS that he did on K-Rock. No real difference there. It's nowhere near the amount of interruption that you'll get with Triv, either. Rover is only stopping down twice an hour for commercials, about 6-7 minutes each time. Triv stops down for multiple long stopset breaks along with news and weather.

Back to Rover, the only real noticable diference is the new and improved imaging for the show. Igor has been replaced by MMS's voice guy Malcom Ryker (a very nice upgrade) and the overall production sounds pretty good.

As for Rover's overall show, same ol' same ol'.

Yeah... you'd have to ask the listeners in Memphis if they noticed any changes. Rover's show is odd, among other shows, in that there is only TWO floating breaks per hour, and not four fixed breaks per hour. Plus, the tx and weather reports are formatted differently than what K-Rock had. Malcom is a welcome upgrade as imaging voice, and blends in well with the rest of the station's sound.

Triv? Breaking for news AND weather? "That blizzard ain't nuttin." BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!! He couldn't read a forecast if it got shoved up his ---. Oh, and they apparently got rid of "Allison" too... ANYONE notice that at all? (Besides me, OA and WIXY :)

Well ClearChannel has to pay Rover somehow! The 18k something she probably made plus another 10k they've been hoarding from the last firing spree (Glaser & others) will pay Rover's check.
I think it's funny they admitted she was next to useless by never having her fill in in PMDrive herself, yet if Rado was there they'd let him do it. She never got even a shot at a Sunday morning fashion show or "Indian's Gold Digger's Hour!"

I didn't notice the Alison departure at all, myself (having sworn off much time with Triv's show). I didn't really even find out until one of my Oak Tree Moles told me about it.

March was I believe CC "raise" time where employees either get 1,2. or a 3% raise . That's too much for them. Thay had to do more cuts- somer's coming and gas prices will be extra high on the Mays Family Yact fleet. Maybe that's why 1065's the way it is.

No, I mean Oak Tree Moles, as in those who are nice enough to ferret out information from that building to us.

Maybe they're Oak Tree Ferrets.

I swore off ever depending on WTAM for any accurate report during afternoon drive when Mr. Eat it all made his very arrogant statement on the Friday of the blizzard weekend that he was more important than traffic and weather.

There is scuttlebutt that Triv has his nose bent out of shape due to the "perks" Rover got coming to Independence, such as a new studio. I wouldn't doubt that this is being played up as a cross promotion.

As for Alison, the new was probably wore off. Time to get another princess.

Alison usually sounded like a whiney little boy most of the time & sounded too "overly mean" at times if you know what I mean...like trying to sound all tough when she didn't have to, like she'd say" Alright Douglas, shut up & do the traffic". I half espected someone to tell her to go back to OCB. Wonder who they'll sucker into board op-ing Limbaugh now. She couldn't sing either.

Malcolm Ryker has been a MMS imaging voice since 1998. In fact the main station voices were John Wells and Keith Eubanks, with Ryker providing pre-produced imaging that could be tagged with call letters by then Imaging Director Mitch "Uncle Buck" Todd (now Creative Director for ALL of Sirius).

I believe Ryker provided approx 20 produced pieces per month for about $800-900. All custom work too. No small feat.

Hell, Wells was about $900/mo dry vo only. Not sure about Eubanks.

When KE died Ryker took a more prominent role.

Is Wells still on MMS? If not he should be. No VO can do 'tood like Wells...provided the writing is there.

I'm in Memphis and it's gone well here. But CC? The evil empire? Scary to Memphians, ala 103's Wakeup Crew.
