You know, generally I'm an optimist. But this is such an obvious clusterf*ck that there really is no optimism to toss at this project. Wrong programming for the wrong signal in the wrong market. A worse decision than Bonneville's 3WT mess, and that's sayin' sumpin'.
So, really, all CBS has started on 1580 is a slow, grueling deathwatch.
Wait, here's something good: we're not personally involved!
I have to agree with JackandCoke, this one is DOA from the git go. Not enough signal in the conservitve suburban and rural areas, even with 50 K days. The tower lights have more coverage at night. The only explanation I can come up with is that it's a cheap way to strip numbers from WMAL with a station that CBS thinks is a turkey. This can go to the thread about wasted 50,000 watt signals.
What a perfect station for a black oriented news/talk station, and blow WOL out of the water. Opps! My bad. That would take some money and some thought, it must be another senior moment!
Yeah. Ug! It’s a bad idea. There are too many conservatalk stations in the DC market. WMAL. WTNT. WHFS, er, the old WPGC (AM.) It’s just too much conservatalk.

I hear ya on the conservative talk thing- but I checked Smerconish's morning show out- and he is not really a conservative guy- his show is more in the vein of Imus than anything else- except that you can understand him....I don't know, not a bad show- when I'm not in a Sports Junkies Mood- he is a good alternative
Added to the horrible decision of format and market is the fact that CBS used the WHFS calls....they have dragged these call letters thru the mud since 05...even when it had low ratings 99.1 WHFS was a modern/alternative music and music only format. Now its been a weekend-only,a weekend/evening,a part-time,a sometimes and a fill-in music format followed by an HD secondary/online feed and now an AM station.........and HFS2 id's as WJZ-FM-HD2 ......You tell me: Would you buy a restaurant known for certain specialties, start selling jock straps, jerseys and fishing lures in the foyer and have a part time dentist/proctologist clinic in the rear dining room? Thats about the best analogy I can come up with for CBS ideas.
