Thoughts on the New Rachel Maddow TV Show?

Not to take anything away from her, but the presentation could have been better. It's kinda like a cross between Countdown and the previous show in that timeslot, The Verdict. I can see why they needed Olbermann on in the show's first-ever segment to try and get viewers hooked. I could give it another chance, though.

Yeah, I agree the presentation was a bit lacking but let's give her some time. Content-wise, it was terrific and it was really wonderful to see Kent Jones (a longtime staple of her radio show and earlier Air America Radio shows) on television.

I've been a fan of Rachael for awhile now and appreciated her when she subbed for Keith. Last night looked a little shaky by previous standards and I finally flipped the switch when she and Buchanan got into it ala a Chris Matthews shoutfest but I remain hopeful she will deliver the goods in her own way.

It looks like that Buchanan segment will be a regular fixture, hence the title "It's Pat".

I guess some of what passes off as "regular segments" come off as contrived bordering on cheesy. I mean, "One More Thing"? Isn't that something Jerry Springer does at the end of his show?

Sorry but I think MSNBC changes hosts more than a parent changes diapers on a baby.
And why is it that these so-called cable NEWS networks have to rely on radio talk show hosts for their evening programs?
You have Glen Beck, Larry King, and now Maddow. How about just sticking to the format of news? If NBC wants an all talk network, then create one.

There's nothing particularly groundbreaking about "The Rachel Maddow Show" right now, I can agree. I haven't been wowed, but I haven't exactly been bored, either. Olbermann has a bad habit of talking at viewers instead of to them sometimes, so Maddow's easy-going, conversational tone is a plus. We'll see how it goes.

That would actually be Springer's "Final Comment".

The "One More Thing" segments are probably intended to highlight news tidbits similar to Olbermann's "Bushed" or "Worst/Best Persons in the World" segments.

One thing we'll hopefully see from the Maddow show: New talking heads, and perhaps a more diverse pool of them. Granted, she's already shared a bunch that have already been featured on Countdown and other MSNBC programming. But tonight, one of her satellite guests was a female African-American college professor. At Princeton. Forget the Princeton part, I didn't know black women were college professors! ;)

If it keeps going like this, maybe they'll hire Rush Limbaugh to do his own talk show on one of the cable networks like what he did from 1992-96, back when Multimedia (same distributor that had Donahue), had his own show.

You even have radio hosts guesting on these radio hosts' cable TV shows (i.e. Stephanie Miller on Larry King, as recently as last night).

And don't forget Don Imus - even though it was merely a simulcast of his radio show. I actually think a condensed "video" version of Miller's show could be good to kill an hour on MSNBC's late-night lineup, and gell better with the previous prime-time programs than those "lock-umentary" shows...

Hey, does Dave Ramsey count? He does a financial radio show and also does a different one-hour show for Fox Business Channel.

Jim Cramer is the anti-Dave Ramsey - popular on TV, but failed not once, not twice, but THREE TIMES on the radio!
