Thoughts on the T-Man?

Well then Leeane, it would have been nice if you admitted you were an employee of a competing station when you ripped the man's show back on page 1.

i did admit it in the first 3 or 4 posts i posted on this board, sorry, i didnt think i needed to every single time....

As a person with intimate knowledge of the T-man Live105 situation...he was NOT lying.

Here's the short version of what went down.

Infinity made an offer for T-man in Seattle. Clear Channel Countered the offer to keep him. After bidding back and forth, Clear Channel won...with the stipulation that the show be put on one of their stations in SF. That is what Infinity was offering, but Clear Channel offered more cash as well.

If Infinity had won, its was pre-determined T-man would be on Live 105. Since CC won, they put him on at WILD. Demery would have had NO CHOICE but to put the show on. Just like Archer had no choice at WILD even if the show doesn't fit the format. PD's don't tell corporate what to do...ie FreeFM, Movin', Jack and any other formats that have littered the radio landscape in recent years. PD's now just follow orders....its too bad.

So either way T-man would have been on in SF, its just Clear Channel won the bidding. This was confirmed for me by Infinity suits in NYC and later confirmed by CC suits. (it helps to know people)

The question now should be....what show will replace the morning show at Live105???

you had me 'til the last line, where you lost all of your credibility.
While the verdict is potentially still out at Live 105's new AM show, from what I can tell they've been making positive steps forward - in a very tough place. I believe they still have time to prove themselves.

Please CBS people ... Wake up and smell the coffee! Strawberry was inchin up book by book - he was up to 4th place 18-34 before Clear Channel made their move- Why T Man? Why Now (when his contract isn't up until Jan 2007) Why San Francisco?? He's Been #1 in Seattle for 8 years...Clear Channel, out of the blue, just decides "hey lets move t'man to sf" NO!! WAKE UP ...-- yes CBS put an offer to the TMan for an INCREDIBLY INSANE AMOUNT -- multi-million per year -- Yes that offer was for SF and YES that offer was for Live 105. Clear Channel was NOT having that, so the bidding war commenced...

if you guys can't see the obvious - i can't help you -- i'm here to give you the truth - enough of the lies and the propaganda!

credibility?? I don't think I NEED you to confirm for me of my credibility or not.

What I will say is if everything was so great over at Live105 why would the morning slot have been offered? And if it has been offered once, as in this t-man case, when will it be offered yet again?

Instead of attacking my "credibility", why not offer why the slot was offered to an out of market quantity like T-man? Was it that T-man said he needed to be on in SF? Doubtful.

Chances are, to sweeten their offer to get him away from CC they offered a bigger market (SF) at a station they wanted to improve.

Sorry if you're one of the Live150 people and can't take the truth. Don't worry though, once you are in radio long enough you'll get used to this type of thing. Its all about the stock price...nothing personal.

The REAL deal. Take this one to the bank.

T-Man was offered afternoon drive at Free-FM in SF and the show would have been carried live on Free-FM in NYC. The only opportunity for mornings here at CBS would come if/when, ok let's say when they dump Adam Carolla. At the end of the day Clear Channel upped their offer, threw in mornings at KYLD and the deal was done.

The plan BEFORE CBS had another frequency to put the Free-FM format on was to blow up the alternative format on KITS. However, as we all know, the 106.9 deal comes through and Live 105 lives to fight another day. Adam C was always the morning guy for whatever station ended up Free-FM. A local show on KITS was always the post-Stern plan assuming they kept the format, which they obviously have.

Now, looking at the last trend, the Live 105 morning show is #5 Persons 18-34 (Live's key demo) and finished #3 for the month of August. The show is trending up, has been for aprox 7 months (with the exception of one down month). New shows take time, and this one seems to be making an earlier than expected impact especially considering things haven't been so friendly for "after Howard" morning shows. DLR? Rover? Carolla? Hello?

Actually, the whole station is performing better in demo across the board post-Stern. Give it time. I know it's the station that everyone loves to hate, but all we can do is wait and see. They're better off than some of us in this facility.

Finally, there are some really interesting names floating around for the PD opening to relpace Sean Demery. All rock/alternative guys too. Doesn't seem to me that a flip of any kind is in the works.

Cheers!

The Shadow Knows!

My two cents here is that the Live 105 morning show may very well be currently trending up but they're toast now that T-Man is here in town.
I make that opinion after listening to T-Man's show for the first time this Wednesday through Friday. Amazing, captivating radio program. Well done Clear Channel.
Does anyone know how old T-Man is?

it was not offerred at live.... free fm maybe, but not live. sean did not want an "urban" show . he would have gone with the well established doghouse when they tried to get hired here, if he was going to hire an "urban" type show...
if i could show you the memo without getting fired i would, since you are having a hard time believing me on this.

sounds like he's mid 50's?

Hey Leeanne - If I were Sean, I wouldn't want TMan on Live 105 either. Also, it sure looks like some of these posters have created accounts just to pimp the TMan.

I do think its quite possible that CBS Radio may have had other opinions on the TMan. TMan seems to get ratings in Seattle; so, if they could get him out of Seattle, it could help KBKS AND they could acquire a show with a track record of success. Free-FM probably would have been a better fit, but with Live 105 having some ratings problems, they could have been looking at them too.

Whether he fits Wild or not, time will tell. He is a personality that jumps right out of the radio at you, and reminds me of Mancow in that respect.

I believe he's 34 years old. (give or take a year)

At times he sounds like he's 14 and other times like he's 65.
