The owners of WHAT should consider making a deal to buy W297AD, WRDV's translator on 107.3 which is co-located with WKDU on the Drexel campus.
This facility would be allowed to simulcast WHAT under the new rules recently approved by the FCC. With a directional antenna to protect WBYN, its coverage could be increased significantly and the site could be moved to a taller building in center city, allowing a very competitive signal in South Philly and possibly to the east and northeast (if the applicants for some co-channel translators can be bought out).
I enjoy listening to WHAT when I'm close enough to receive it, but the urban noise floor on 1340 kHz is incredibly high due to electrical power line noise. A few weeks ago, I even had trouble hearing the station along Girard Avenue near the zoo.
