Thoughts on WODS vs. WROR

I guess from an industry standpoint, they are both classic hits stations, however I think their official formats are still quite distinct, WROR being classic hits and WODS still being oldies.

WODS is still a bona-fide oldies station while WROR plays different music and doesn't really match Oldies at all.

If WODS keeps on its metamorphosis in the future towards more 80's, I still think that the formats of the 2 stations will still continue to be quite different.

What do you think, agree or disagree?

Even though WROR plays (They play soft, but not too soft, and not too hard) Classic Rock, they also play some, Motown. They do have a variety of 60s, 70s, and 80s. They're ok. I listen to that station most days. Paul Perry is on weekday afternoons, he sounds cool.

You know where WODS is going. After X-mas, they'll sound just like WCBS with its pop-oriented "The Greatest Hits of All Time" plalylist. At that point, there will be very difference between WROR and WODS musically. It will come down to personalities.

I am not so sure I agree with that, as stated the sound of both stations is quite different. The 80's titles that WODS is now playing are songs that WROR hasn't even touched at all. I really hope that WODS starts playing more 80's pop oldies, not Rock like 80's that WROR is playing, although that would be a natural transition.

BTW, CBS-FM sounds fantastic in my opinion. It's not totally pop-oriented, but it seems to have a pretty broad playlist. It gets this 30-something listening.

AC, top 40 and classic hits seem to be thriving under PPM's as is the case in NY. Both classic rock and classic hits are now in Top5 for 25-54's down there. CBS anticipated classic hits would do well for CBS-FM and the switch paid off.

When PPM's come to Boston in the spring, all three classic hits/rock stations WODS, WROR and WZLX should do quite well.

That is what I have been saying since the summer of 07.

ODS should be come a clone of CBS-FM

Please WAIT until Nov 28th to go Christmas.

WODS seems to be, at the moment, running a BZ sportscast of a Bruins game!!! It's definately jarring to go from music to sports-like that-what would one think if one had not tuned in in a long time?. Experiment or something else?? Say it isn't so...they've never done that before!!

80's music is for sure coming more and more to Oldies. They seem to have increased their playlist-stuff like The Cars, and today Frank Sinatra's "New York, New York" got played. 80's is increasingly becoming "oldies" in terms of how long ago some of the songs got played. Previously they play Donna Summer stuff, Roy Orbison and the late Laura Branigan("Gloria") as part of their "oldies" anyway. I can see a time when Oldies will be playing more "80's hits" intermixed, ones that played *new* when it used to be WHTT "Hot Hit Radio" 25 years ago. Crap, was it THAT long ago?

WBZ is probably running the debate tonight.

Now that would make sense, but why isn't it on WBCN instead? Then again they do have the Patriots, but I do not follow sports really.

Yes we HAVE on numerous occasions in the past. The ONLY reason is, the Debate being carried WBZ. The company is honoring the contractual obligation.
There is NOTHING else to read in to it. WBZ Bruins listeners have been aware of the change for sometime. I don't have a calendar or schedule in front of me, but I would imagine if the Bruins are playing on election night, we would carry them again.

Case closed!

Simple, stations share same GM.

Yeah, thanks JJ. That makes sense. I totally forgot there was a debate on(I think ALOT of people forgot there was a debate on LOL) and this being sports season, at least around here, more people are thinking about a game than more same ol' same ol' Presidential Debate stuff. By the third debate, it gets kind of moot. I'd just-honestly never heard Oldies air a game like that before-really-flipping it on I thought may radio did something strange and I had the wrong station or some atmospheric overlap happened. Thanks for clearing that up!!

Oldies does seem to be playing a wider selection of stuff. When Paula played ol' Frankie's "New York, New York" the other day, she got some calls for "More! More!" I have to admit I cranked the sound. Variety is especially nice.

Soon enough we'll be in Xmas tune season, what about five/six weeks? I get rather stunned at what was apparently,in past years, one of their most requested Xmas tunes-Domenic The Donkey. For me, it's Dino's "Baby it's Cold Outside". And a good many of the Xmas tunes ARE 80's and 90's tunes-Wham! Mariah Carey, etc speaking of.

I wonder if WROR will go Christmas again like they did last year? WODS going Christmas or "holiday music" is a given.

Given their "Christmas in July" stunt, and the fact that it boosted 105.7's ratings, I'd count on it.
