Thousands of Radiosophy HD-100s sold

I had to return my HD-100 because of a faulty volume control which didn't control the volume in the left speaker. When I called Radiosophy, the rep told me to return it for a new radio. I asked him how many HD-100s were sold. He said thousands were sold so far. I'm only passing on the info and will leave the analysis and editorial comments to the other posters here.

To be fair: What did you expect him to tell you? "It's a horrible product and is being returned in droves"?? Yes, we'd all like to see some objective sales figures, but you're not going to get them from an employee of the same firm that's trying to sell them.

Master Theseus, the Sangean representative, initially indicated that the HDT-1 was selling in-droves, until further inspection revelaled that he had been begging radio-geeks, and shilling to the public (as if they visit radio boards), to buy their HD radios. The HDT-1 must have had enough problems that Sangean had to come out with the HDT-1X - it seems like a vicious cycle of having to purchase multiple HD radios, but maybe that is the plan.

"Begging radio geeks"? Master Thesus has been in contact with radio geeks asking them to evaluate the product so that it can be improved. And they HAVE sold thousands of HD1s, and are producing it's successor...with improvements asked for by customers.

"One of the reasons I agree for IBiquity is that as a manufacturer I find it extremely difficult to motivate any action and difficult to sell HD Radios. I doubt this would get easier with IBiquity out of the picture, infact I think it may make my job too difficult. If I didn't have IBiquity helping me in every way they can we would have had to get rid of HD Radio long ago."

I doubt seriously that's an accurate quote. They couldn't have gotten "ride of HD long ago", because it's a brand new product, only on the market for a few months. OBVIOUSLY NOT an accurate quote. I'd bet lunch on that. Nobody says "we'd have dropped it long ago" about a product that's freakin' brand new. And I'm not talking about how long HD radio products have been on the market, I'm talking about THIS SPECIFIC PRODUCT FROM SANGEAN! IT IS ONLY MONTHS OLD, and has already been improved.

If there's no future in HD radio, how come so many manufacturers, including the biggest...Sony, are bringing new products to market? Wait...why am I asking you ANYTHING? I'll restrict real questions to someone with some knowledge.

By the way...again rather than having something to contribute OF YOUR OWN, an observation BASED UPON YOUR OWN EXPERIENCE, you link to someone else's words. If copy/paste becomes an olympic event, you're sure to "bring home the gold" Pocket. Remarkable.
