The Atlanta Thrashers and Atlanta Hawks have announced their 2005/2006 TV schedules.
The big news is that over-the-air telecasts of both teams have moved from WUPA-69 to WPXA-14. Given that the latter is part of the "i" (formerly Pax) network, I suspect the two teams are producing the games themselves, selling the commercials, and paying WPXA for the airtime.
With the move to WPXA comes a big change in the scheduling of Thrashers' games on over-the-air TV. In the past, when WUPA had them, over-the-air broadcasts of Thrashers' games were almost always on Saturday nights. But all fifteen Thrashers' over-the-air telecasts this year (9 home games, 6 away games) are midweek games.
The Hawks have more over-the-air TV games than do the Thrashers: WPXA will carry 36 regular-season Hawks' games (20 home, 16 away).
Turner South has the regional cable telecasts of both the Thrashers (46 games; 26 home and 20 away) and Hawks (9 games; 6 home and 3 away). Oddly enough, the Hawlks' website does not list any games on Turner South after February 22nd. It's my guess that there will be some Hawks' games on Turner South between then and the end of the regular-season; the network may need to know the Braves' 2006 pre-season schedule before scheduling Hawks games for the final weeks of the regular-season.
