Three flip format to 'Yacht Rock'

I love this idea and would totally listen to a Yacht Rock station if one were on the air close to me. It's frustrating that "Classic Hits" has pretty much become "Classic Rock-Lite," that is, classic rock without some of the heavier titles. I like more of the "soft rock" stuff that seems to get pretty much zero airplay these days, regardless of era.
Agree on the comment about quasi-classic rock classic hits stations. In Fort Wayne, 101.7 tweaked more in that direction a few years ago and reduced the pop when Big 92.3 switched over to the format. 101.7 was successful in knocking 92.3 back out of the format despite 92.3’s slightly better signal. I’d like the hear more rhythmic hits from the era, which no station wants to cater to. There is a Lost 45 website, where a point system was created to rank lost singles. The soft rock hits that were big in the early 80s often score highly on that website. Look at Olivia Newton John’s “Physical”. Wasn’t it the biggest song of the 80s? You rarely hear it now.

Or ONJ's "Magic." Heck, aside from "You're the One That I Want," she's pretty much been completely forgotten from radio. A real shame, as she had a lot of great songs!

Most of her big singles were in the 70s and the only remaining widely programmed format that plays music from the 70s is too rock focused to play her pop and country-pop hits.
Her country hits don't even get played on classic country stations anymore, including SiriusXM's Willie's Roadhouse, which is supposed to be '50s through '70s country but is actually only country music from those years that Willie Nelson liked, or that fans of Willie Nelson would be expected to like.

I've never heard any ONJ on mainstream radio, on any format, at any time over the last 20 years (that I can remember).

Until a few years ago, the only ONJ I'd ever heard was her duet with John Denver on his album Windsong.

MeTVmusic, and ABM, now just called Westwood One Adult Standards, plays all the 70's ONJ hits. You don't have to wait too long to hear something from Grease, or 'Have You Ever Been Mellow?:, "Sam', "Let Me Be There', or 'A Little More Love'.

There's no accounting for bad taste...

I saw a list ranking the most iconic music videos of all time. As expected MJ's "Thriller" was #1, but "Physical" was in the top 5.

That one doesn't sound right for the format but I've never heard it unless the automation didn't work, because it's only on during the news.
When was the last time you listened? They even play Bananarama's "Cruel Summer" every now and then. Although, I'm pretty sure I have never heard "Physical'...anywhere!

They have been calling it that all along. I'm not sure who has been calling it America's Best Music, but the singers were back when I was listening more.
Not every affiliate uses that slogan. It's not a format name, but a slogan. Glass FM, KHAR, and many others dropped that slogan. WNAM still used it till the end, if that's who you're thinking of.

I’ve heard “Physical” a few times within the last year on the 80s Backtrax. Outside of syndi programming…yeah, I really haven’t. Except maybe once on a classic hits, but I don’t remember the station.

“Cruel Summer” - oh yeah, I’ve heard it both on syndi and regular programming.

The station I listened to that was actually in my area had the singers doing the music with those words and the station's name and call letters. Some affiliates use those singers and those words.
