Suburban Grayslake meteorology student among 3 killed in crash
The weather forecasting community is morning the loss of three University of Oklahoma meteorology students, including a teenager from the Chicago suburbs.
RIP to upcoming students. In fact one of the victims was heading to broadcasting at the time of death.
“One of the students, Nic Nair, was a member of our OU Nightly Family. Nic served as a student broadcast meteorologist and production crew member on our newscasts this semester.
Our hearts are heavy and our thoughts are with the families, friends and fellow meteorology students of all those lost as well as the staff and faculty at the OU School of Meteorology.
We appreciate the concern from countless OU Nightly alumni who have reached out from across the country and are fortunate to have their thoughts, prayers and support.
All victims have been identified as
Gavin A. Short, 19, of Grayslake, Nicholas K. Nair, 20, of Denton, Texas, and Drake H. Brooks, 22, of Evansville, Ind., all died at the scene of the crash on Interstate 35 south near mile marker 214 in Tonkawa, Oklahoma, according to state Highway Patrol officials. All three were meteorology students at the University of Oklahoma. Fellow OU meteorology student Brayden Siau said the trio was thrilled to be chasing storms like the one that occurred Friday in Kansas.
