Three More All-Christmas Stations In New Hampshire

Looks like there are three more all-Christmas stations in New Hampshire.

Based on it's playlist, as published on Yes.com, WHOM-94.9 (transmitting on top of Mount Washington with a huge signal area throughout northern New England) has gone all-Christmas, starting last night (Thanksgiving, November 24th) at 7 P.M.

And based on it's website, WZID-95.7 in Manchester (it's playlist isn't published on Yes.com, and while I sometimes get it where I live, I couldn't pick it up today) has also gone all-Christmas.

Also based on the songs played listed on it's website, it looks like WGXL-92.3 in Lebanon has also taken the plunge.
 
95.7 WZID is playing Christmas music just on the weekends, starting today (11/25/05).

Also, 98.3 WLNH(Laconia, NH) has gone all Christmas again this year. I heard the change as early as this past Monday(11/21).

And in Maine!!

WKCG Star 101 in Augusta is playing Christmas. In Portland Oldies 100.9 has been playing all Christmas music.Maybe it's just for the weekend where WHOM is playing it until Christmas.I think one station in a market this size is enough.

Oldies 100.9 is just doing a Chrismas Music Marathon Weekend.

I have to agree with you on that. I'm not so much the grinch, but too many stations are going all christmas. It would be much better if they just put xmas music into a 3 or 4 song rotation an hour. It'd be an almost perfect balance.

yes I heard WHOM doing all Christmas late last night. I think most of the stations
who intend to go all-Christmas will have done it by the end of this weekend; otherwise, I wouldn't expect more flips till maybe a week or two before Christmas
Day itself. Wonder if some stations might do weekends only?

And sometimes even talk stations will do things like "Christmas music all day
Christmas Eve and Christmas Day" (or at least on Christmas Eve at night).

Tired idea..to who? Apparently not the listeners based on the ratings of the stations doing it the past few years. In the world of A/C radio, this is smart programming for the final third of the fall rating period. The target audience...women...want this music between Thanksgiving and Christmas. These stations are just serving their audiences. And...a part time Christmas station will probably not win if someone else in the market is doing it full time. And again....these stations are programming to WOMEN!!

In the Bangor market, 92.9 WEZQ has gone all Christmas. They kicked WKSQ's butt last fall when 94.5 made the mistake of not switching. Will history repeat itself or did Kiss wise up this time?

For the 2 gentleman above...along with others who HATE the ALL-CHRISTMAS MUSIC FORMAT...the easiest solution is to change the station or turn the radio off!

Nobody is twisting anybody's arm to listen to seasonal music! If you hate the format...listen to a different station! Or bring in your personal collection of "bah humbug CDs" for the next 4 weeks until 12/26!

If you need to complain about something...b**ch about what comes out of the speakers the other 11 months of the year. More than a few Northern New England Radio Stations could really use an "audio transfusion!"

Kiss 94.5 switched to all Christmas the weekend before Thanksgiving this year. They and 92.9 WEZQ seem to be the only two fighting it out in the market this year. (I could have sworn Kiss also went the all Christmas route last year also.) Not switching to an all Christmas format this year (so far) are two other Clear Channel outlets. WGUY 102.1 and WABI 910. 102.1 did it three/four? years ago and then went to "Lite Jazz". After not denting the books they did the all Christmas thing again and went back to oldies the next year. They did the Christmas format again last year also. Looks like they're staying with the oldies this time around.

WABI 910 also had been doing the Christmas format for the last few years, but earlier this year they switched from their standards to a "health and financial" talk station. z-z-z-z-z not for me.

It's interesting to hear the Christmas format on Kiss 94.5 and then switch to Star 101.3. They definitely are using the same playlist except during John Tesh (Kiss) and Delilah (Star). (Maybe all CC stations do?)

Now that the year is winding down. WWMJ 95.7 (I-95) debuted during Christmas vacation last year. How long will they keep the moniker "the all NEW I-95"? Maybe at the end of the year.

Also any guesses if any stations will flip at the end of the year? Last year was a big one with a lot of oldies stations leaving and a lot of "classics" joining the fracas.

Good point made my friend, but in defense as being one of the two gentlemen above, I did not claim I hated Xmas music.

My post was just a general idea of what I believe "COULD" work better, whether or not it will. I thought a 4/5 song an hour rotation "COULD" work better until christmas creeps closer. I don't believe that everyone in this post replied because they hate stations who play xmas music. It started just as a topic of various markets in northern New England (ie, Portland, Northern VT/NH, and Portsmouth-Dover-Rochester) who have several stations in each of those markets going ALL christmas even before Thanksgiving. Ideas have been brought to this table (by these post). Not that these ideas will have any real effect on stations and their broadcasting ways, but it's for the sport of the business.

My post does not mention anything about hating xmas. I simply brought up my idea, whether it is good or sucks, that's besides the point. I just came up with the 4/5 song an hr rotation, never saying that I hate xmas music. I think that's what many of us intended on these posts, never saying that stations shouldn't play xmas music. It is, after all, the holiday season, so obviously it's going to be expected for stations to play holiday music.

You made a valid point, but in defense to many of us repling to the original post, I don't believe we're doing it because we hate the holiday. I think some of us enjoy bringing different ideas to the table, regardless of whether the ideas are good or not, regardless of whether it makes a difference or not. It's for recreational use. Just a sport.

On a brighter note, I hope you, your family, and everyone else on this board enjoys a safe and happy holiday season.

It was my understanding that CC put Christmas tunes on GUY last year and not Kiss. Clear Channel, also known as "Christmas Channel" generally mandates that their soft A/C stations flip to Christmas music. Hard to guess who would switch heading into the New Year..if anyone..

I noticed while driving thru Portland yesterday (Sunday) on way back from NH that both WBAE-1490 and 1400 Have "Music of Your Life" with just Christmas music. Don't know if that was for the weekend or right thru Christmas, but it was right off the statllite.

I noticed while driving thru Portland yesterday (Sunday) on way back from NH that both WBAE-1490 and 1400 Have "Music of Your Life" with just Christmas music. Don't know if that was for the weekend or right thru Christmas, but it was right off the satellite.
