Three More Weeks

That is when ABC15 drops their tried-and-true (and expensive) game show combination of "Wheel of Fortune" and "Jeopardy!" and replaces them with all new (and unproven) shows ("The List" and "Let's Ask America").

Does anyone want to guess what month they will drop the 4pm newscast, move the failed game show to that time slot, and make the 6pm newscast a full hour? :D

I'm looking forward to having Jeopardy at a time when I can actually watch it on 3TV!

If ABC15 starts their "hour-long" newscast at 6pm as Eric surmised, I already can imagine the promos:

1. The Valley's ONLY hour-long 6pm newscast
2. ABC Evenings with Steve and Katie

ABC15's loss might be KAZT's gain. They already schedule "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?" between 6 and 7, and that's going to continue this fall. It may be a good idea for them to switch around the first-run and the year-old rerun so that the new episode is shown at 6:30. I can see a lot of former 6:30 "WOF" viewers going to "Millionaire."

As for 3TV going back to their old timeslots for "WOF" and "J!," I'm more of a "Family Feud" viewer myself.

AZTV's fall schedule (WARNING: PDF format)

As for the possibility of ABC15 expanding their 6pm newscast, make that "ABC15 Evenings with Steve and Katie with Diane in the middle" (don't forget ABC World News Tonight!).

I was just talking about branding the hypothetical hour-long 6pm newscast. The 5pm newscast would still be branded ABC 15 News at 5.

wow Tucson TV program directors aren't so bad after all.

I don't think the decision was made on a local level. Eventually, all Scripps-owned stations which carry "WOF" and "J!" will drop the shows when the contracts are up because the shows are "too expensive" and brings in an older audience (somehow, this is bad for advertising). Instead of shopping for existing shows that are not as expensive and skew younger, they decided to go out and create two of their own (especially risky, since these shows will only be seen in a handful of markets to start out with, and may not catch on in the markets they do air in).

Plus, ABC15, just like many other ABC affiliates across the country, is rolling the dice with the Katie Couric talk show experiment. Not all of Couric's stations are ABC affiliates, but the bulk of them are. That could be another expensive flop.

Less than two weeks left and no mention of "WOF" or "J!" on azfamily.com. 3TV needs to educate the viewing public where their favorite game shows are going. I can see a lot of older viewers tune in to ABC15 on the 17th and look at the TV in disgust.

I look at 15 almost every day in disgust. ;D

3 has been running promos for some time promoting WOF and Jeopardy.

But, how many of the games' target audience still watch 3TV on a regular basis? If not add a blurb on azfamily.com, at least use the digital billboards they buy time/space on.
