Three Year License Renewals

FCC acting Chairman Michael Copps told a group today that he'd like to see license renewals every 3 years instead of every 8 years.

Copps forgets the reason they changed the rule was because the FCC budget was cut, and they lacked the staff to renew licenses more frequently. To the best of my knowledge, the budget hasn't grown to the point where they could handle all the renewals and get anything else done.

I'd like to see a rule that requires all the commissioners to personally approve every renewal. It would take them 20 years to get through all the paperwork.

A lot of people count on government to be unable to get anything done - including enforcing the law.
