Thunder Country or WRNS?

Who do you think holds a better grip with the audience in ENC? I know WRNS has a bigger area but Thunder had a big area too.

WRNS has had huge numbers and revenue for a long time...They have been a few efforts to steal a piece of their pie over the years..They haven't lasted very long.. WRNS has been through alot internally but they keep it live and local for the most part..The other stations that have tried to fight the battle with WRNS over the years have never had the signal to go head to head with them..

WRNS will continue to be the dominant "Country" station for the forseeable future, however with new owners taking over soon, will there be any changes?

In the mid-80s Mac Edwards was giving them some decent competition with WRCM, but then he got an offer from a station down in Austin, TX., and WINFAS didn't have another Mac Edwards with which to replace him.

While neither of these is my personal choice, I'd say that unless another big-budget group (Beasley) with a big stick decides to go up against Next Media, WRNS-FM will be the dominant country music station in this area.

Both stations are rated for 100,000 watts but WRNS's antenna is at twice the height above ground as WRHT (Thunder Country). That is significant. Even here in New Bern, while Radio Locator shows me to get a "local grade" signal, I can tell you that is not the case. WRHT just doesn't have the penetration power. WRNS, basically you can hear that thing coming out your toaster.

The general on-air presentation of WRNS is also much better just purely in terms of the DJs' style and on-air performance. The few times I've tuned in WRHT, it sounds very cheesy.

That being said, I'm not a lover of modern country music and if I'm in the mood for country, you'll find me over at 97.9 The Bear with classic country. :)

I can remember WRNS being listed in Broadcasting Yearbook or whatever it was called with a very short tower. And yet one time I was in the car in front of a Wal-Mart type store and in that exact location, with the store probably helping, I could hear WRNS just south of Greensboro.

I personally believe Thunder has a better station. The personalities have been moved around and I think they are really good sounding. They have a way better playlist then WRNS. I don't know when the last time some of y'all listened to it but it's way better today.
