Thursday Is The Day

Looks like CBS-FM in NY returns on Thursday of this week. It will probably be a watered-down version of what it once was, as is Woggle is today.

But there's something that I find interesting, if not a little whacky.

Years ago, Woggle had all Motown on Monday nights, Real Oldies on Wednesday nights, and Soul on Thursday nights. All of those shows are gone now. The only show that remains is the Sunday Street Corner show, which is voice-tracked.

Does anyone else think that it's strange for a station to play mostly 60's and 70's all week, and then, oh yes, Doo Wop for 3 hours on Sunday's, but no other genre at all?

The specialty shows throughout the week complemented each other, and actually made the station sound interesting back then. Philly was a big town for soul music and motown and to not have many of those regional hits on the air, but to have the Doo Wop on the air makes it seem like they are leaving out a lot of songs.

With the new PPM's, it looks like oldies is still a hit. Does anyone think Woggle would take a hit by bringing back those specialty shows throughout the week in order to complement the doo wop show and the regular format? I don't think they would take a hit, but I do think it would make the station sound more focused.

Thoughts?

WOGL also has an excellent rhythmic/dance oldies program on Saturday nights. So, there is a pattern of specialty shows during the weekend and regular programming during the week. Not to mention their Top 20 countdown show on Wednesday nights. Compared with what most big markets have for oldies, this is nothing to compain about.

Right now, WOGL is one of the best big market oldies stations in the country. Enjoy it now - before someone in programming decides to screw with it.
