Re: Dayparted Contemp with New Flip?
Just an oldtimer who hung around radio long enough to learn how it works--and still finds it interesting. Obviously I enjoy the competitive aspects of the biz. As you know, one can leave radio but radio doesn't leave you! As far as the Simpsons go, EVERYONE in Pennsylvania radio knows them or about them. Shoot, how many stations do they own? A dozen? For how long? 50 years? No, I have no close relationship--but I would've had to be deaf/blind not to know a lot about their radio history. I know that Cary & Ted are very well liked. Steve, I really do wish WGMR the best of good fortune. I don't have a dog in the fight, but I do enjoy watching from afar, and the monopoly shenanigans of the Forever/Galli tandem is just wrong--so I've enjoyed watching 101 give 103 fits.
And, like I said before, I just hope everyone there realizes that the gains they've presumably made are risked by change. Change the flip? Yes. But don't change the guts of the programming so much that you have to start from scratch with the audience. It takes radio listeners awhile to find a station... sample it, get to know it, and finally like/love it. Change things too much and you chase them away and you have to start all over. Especially if you're not gonna drop a half-million dollars to promote it--and that doesn't seem to fit Cary's history. (If anyone wants to know the ill effects of too much change too quickly, they should give Don Bedell a call--he oughta be an expert)!
Yes, we'll be listening. Have fun!
