Ticket Butt Smooching on this so-called board

My god how did sports in America (in business since 1776), ever survive without the almighty god Ticket around. I am betting Cumulus doesn't buy toilet paper for Ticket's floor, with the bunch from here...they have no need of ever running out of THE LOVE(??).

You all howl and demand REAL sports reporting/talk/interviews, then pick what is the worst example (OK for DFW probably best) of that. You chime with glee about how they seamlessly jump from sports to lifestyle, guess what I could give a %$*& about Oscars, Grammys or anything NON-sports related.

Worst of all is the HOMER attitude in this market, OUR teams are greatest in the history of Pro Sports. We will tell you that in between commercial breaks and ignore ANY caller who dares dispute that.

KESN sucks simply because instead of getting people who know something about sports, they hired some of the worst hacks in newspaper history. Jen Engel was about as entertaining as a Disney straight to DVD movie, Randy Galloway slurps butt while claiming he is only one tough on everyone. It is all just a BAD joke on listeners, no one in this area cares about anything but the almighty dollar.

No format (I repeat for the learning impaired) NO FORMAT in this area worries 1 Eff about listeners (even your precious Ticket), they worry about how much they bringing in and how good the book is so they can charge more and get more.

Radio as I knew it listener oriented/service driven died when FCC, in the we're from the government and this won't hurt a bit. Threw the rulebook out window, building mega-stations killing the spirit, life and heart of radio.

I am sick of this everyone sucks but "The Great, Wonderous, Not To Be Believed, Greatest Guys In Entire Universe...THE TICKET

I have sat and read and read and waited for an intelligent statement about the whole market (my apologies to David Eduardo...who seems to know something the syncophants DON'T) [EDIT-inflammatory]

Buh-Bye :-*

Since 1987, I've lived in Indianapolis, St. Louis, Detroit, Los Angeles, Tampa, Toronto, Houston, NYC, and Dallas.

I'm sorry, but The Ticket is BY FAR the best radio station I have heard. It just appeals to me in a bigger way than anything else I've heard, personally. And, I happen to think they do things very intelligently.

I'm sorry if that makes me a lesser mortal than yourself, but it's just the case. Please forgive us, almighty radio critic, if we express a preference. As well as tipping our caps, because as you might have read on this "so called board" it ain't so easy to do what they're doing (or everyone would be doing it.)

And it deserves recognition and respect.

Gotta go with ya, Gumpy...I don't listen to The Ticket at all (unless there's a Cowboys coaching change I want info on!) but I have a lot of respect for it. (Yes, when I hear Rhyner's name, I think of KZEW still.) But to start up an AM station from scratch 13 short years ago and to have carved a longterm, successful niche with it...that says a lot. Some of us have gone back and forth on the board over the years about whether a "sports" station should be guy talk and generic topics and not 100% sports...I don't agree with anything less than a total commitment to sports if you call yourself a "sports station," BUT the market seems to demand the guy talk, and the station's been very successful with it. ESPN stays more on the topic of sports, but hasn't made much of a splash even after 6.5 years.

Yeah, it's a 'homer' thing, much like WBAP assumes everyone is a conservative. But if the listenership is there, why mess with it? Those that don't like it can tune elsewhere. You can't make everyone happy.

...snore...cough...uh, I'm sorry, you said something?

If not, I need to get ready for my clock radio to wake me up... on this sports radio station that doesn't begin the day talking senselessly about the Boston Bruins or the Portland Trailblazers but rather about teams most retinues around here may be familiar with, you know, Cowboys, Mavericks and Stars.

Oh come on, O sapient critic of the air waves... teams with D-A-L-L-A-S in its name. You think, maybe that's why people talk about the station? Sorry they cancelled Z-Rock, by the way.

Sounds like we have a person in our midst from the tinge of jealousy in his voice(probably worked at 990am). To be honest, I have alot of respect for KTCK. What was a small AM station on the dial is now a Dallas instutuion. Sure, they may have some cocky hosts and locker room schtick, but its more enjoyable compared to Mike and Mike or Randy "Horseradio" Galloway.

Damn! I'll be at work :(

Sounds kinda upscale for a Thom Bailey ain't workin' party.

Remember, most of the people wanting to attend will be people Thom didn't pay for several months.

I think it should be either at Krystal Burger or Williams Chicken.

Ok, how about microwave patio burritos and flat Mr. Pibb??

Ah, a banquet truly WORTHY of Thom Bailey.

(As long as we can steal them and keep promising for months to the guy at the 7-11 that we'll DEFINITELY pay him.)

This Thom Bailey fellow sounds like quite the cheapskate..

Slam, there are people in the Welfare office that gossip about this sleeze.

I was half joking when I called him out by name - but rereading the original post, and having listened to that calamity of a morning show of his 2-3 times, I really think it was him. The "so-called" gave it away. That was his crutch phrase, "these so-called players" "these so-called owners" "these so-called experts" I guess the so-called listeners just never arrived. ::)

Much like I flushed my "so-called" radio career down the "so-called toilet" when I went to work there.

I'm new here. Gumpy told me about the site. I worked at 990. Actually left a high-paying advertising job in NY to do so.

990? Thom Bailey? The horror...the horror...the horror...

I'm sure everyone on this board (great site, BTW) has a little file in the back dark recesses of their minds which is labeled "STUPIDEST THING I EVER DID."

Let's just say I've recently emptied my file onto the floor and replaced it with my 990 experience. The whole "got arrested kidnapping a prize hog in high school" thing now seems like genius in comparison.

The appeal to me with the ticket is it has always coincided a great deal with what I am interested in...

When the Mavs are making a big playoff run I am all over that...when the rangers are out of it in August, I don't really want to talk about them. Since I have OTHER interests in the world than just sports, it is good that they are capable of covering a wider array of subjects, many which are of interest to me.

There are times when I want to be sports intensive. NFL playoffs for the Cowboys? I can go all sports 20 hours a day for weeks. February in the early 90s with the Mavs in the tank and no hockey? Not so interested in talking about what little sports there are to talk about...I have other interests.

They essential tapped into their audience and the things their core audience liked including sports. Sports is the focal or pivot point, but a lot else goes around it and I appreciate it. I also like that even in the most sports intensive times they will stop down for a little non-sports stuff on occasion.
