Tieline i-Mix G3 options

Has anyone had experience in how to be able to switch between two different cellular providers on a Tieline i-Mix G3 easily (for not-so-bright talent/ sports guy)? We intend to buy one of their USB modules for the Tieline, but we would like to also have VZ and ATT USB modems to pick which service is going to work right that day... With Comrex's product it's very easy. Not so much with the Tieline it seems....

Yes, one of my stations does just that. We use two of these of these Cradlepoint adaptors (CBA750). They are not a router but rather a simple pass-through. They need no configuration whatsoever, provided you use a supported USB modem.

Simply plug in a supported USB modem and then interconnect it to the Tieine with a regular network cable. That simple. We have one for AT&T and one for Verizon. We also attach the USB permanently and then screw on the security cover (so that the USB can't be removed). The talent carries both to the remote, plugs in the adaptor, and powers on. That simple.

For your situation, you would assign the purchased Tieline USB module to IP1. You could then plug in the adaptor (with different provider) that I just described to the RJ45 port and assign it to IP2.

Have a look:

Thanks for the advice. So, tell me more about the IP1 and IP2 deal. At the studio end would I need to hook up IP 1 and IP2 to the board then and use whichever one connects in the rackmount commander?

I've never used both at the same time. It's either IP1 or IP2. Each is set for a different rate based on which service is used. IP1 is set for higher rates for a wired connection. IP2 is set for lower rates for 4G (using Voice Codec).

That said, I *think* you can connect IP1 and IP2 at the same time, and then set both IP1 and IP2 either to send program audio out a single output or to send program out one output channel and talkback/cue out the second.

Also, it looks like Cradlepoint offers, in addition to the one I mentioned, a slightly different version, which includes an integrated modem. I have no experience with this one.
