Tim Conway jr on KABC ?

I was tuning around Sunday nite and heard TCJ about 6pm on a "fully sponsored program " (?) called "Cash King " He seemed to be the host ....How does CC allow that ? Wouldn't he normally be contractually prohibited from appearing on a competing station ? Especially in an hour long comm'l ?

This has been brought up several times before. Considering how Clear Channel usually operates it does seem weird. I have a friend who works for CC and they wanted permission for her to do anything outside of the company, and never gave permission.

TCJ's a mercenary! He'll do anything for $!

Yeah, he probably likes having his rent paid on time and his bills current, and he'll do anything to accomplish it... just like everyone else.

Hey, Cash King, if you ever get tired of TCJ, I'm a total mercenary who will do anything for $ too and I hereby offer up my services. You know where to find me - just PM me at ChannelFlipper at radio-info.com. I'll be waiting by the inbox.

I believe I have heard commercials on KNX for Dr. Manger's Lasiks surgery featuring John Kobelt as the spokesperson. John never says his name in the commercials though.

Jumped around on the dial today and tuned into the Tim Conway Jr's "Cash Daddy" show on KABC this afternoon, sponsored by
that Loanmart company.

You know when you have a couple of friends over and everyone's gathered around talking and having a beer?
That's how the show sounded and at times it was more eye-opening than his KFI show. A couple of the folks that were (or are still)
involved with his KFI show are part of this hybrid/informericial. There's Missak, Randy and others. Thought it was a rehash of
Frosty, Heidi, and Frank when I first tuned in. It even had the various references to foreskin, adult video stores, nude house cleaning,
and lingerie demos.

At one point one of the hosts called out people who are stuck at home watching lapband and career college commercials as "losers" before
quickly calling himself one. Seems like anything goes with this format, TCJ should consider doing this on his regular show one of these days.

Update: The station website lists this as a program with a goal "goal is to arm people with the knowledge to make educated decisions in the world of finance!"
LOL! They should really ease off the finance angle.

I haven't actually heard this show, but it's promoted to death on both TCJ's show and Randy & Gina's Pretty Good Podcast. Oscar, the co-host who seems to know his stuff about saving money, has appeared on PGP and sounds like an intelligent guy. I would be inclined to take his advice, but I'm not so inclined to listen to a show where he has to hold court with a couple of dopes (and I mean that in the most loving way possible) like Tim and Randy.

PPM changed the thinking for a lot of broadcasters, because people are no longer filling out diaries where they are required to remember (and write down) what and where they listened to someone or some show. All that matters is what station is on in the vicinity of the device.

This may be off the topic, but there is a question that baffles me about TCJ. What is the meaning of "Ding Dong?" He refers to it often, and as a new listener to KFII I feel out of the loop.

Thanks.

You are not out of the loop. The guy is mentally imbalanced and has the intelligence of a 12 year old with his inflective yelling and inconsistent arguments. He will contradict himself every 15 minutes. This is what 40 plus years of smoking weed does to you.

I think it's a horse racing reference, can't quite remember.

Thanks for the info. I'm a new listener via the internet, and don't listen for something insightful, just the entertainment factor.

Yep. It's the horse-racing shout: When two horses are in the home stretch and keep trading off 1st and 2nd ... the old timers would should "ding dong." Tim occasionally explains it.

As a younger listener (25-34 male), I find the TCJS "memes" to be the best part.

"You know you love it."
"There's a lot going on, and it's not good."
"My wife!"
"Ding dong!"
"That's a great story."
"What the ... H!"
"We're trying ... trying ... to get away from that language."
"Huge shoutout!"

If you aren't into meme-culture on the internet, the whole idea probably seems foreign and weird to you. I even heard "mentally unbalanced" tossed around. Talk consultants are constantly trying to figure out how to get younger demos interested in talk radio. This is how you do it. Generation Y is into memes.

Remember back in the 70s when your parents looked at you and your teenage peers and rolled their eyes at how crazy you guys seemed? "How can you stand that devil music?" Guess what Baby Boomers? You are now the "old man." And the next generation of talk radio is going to sound crazy. TCJS is one of the first shows to crack the code on winning guys (and I even know a few girls who are fans, too) my age. The PPMs back it up.

Tim Conway, Jr. is simply impossible to listen to. And in that same vein: KABC's Morning Mess is still on the air. I just cannot figure out a reason to justify it.
