Tim Conway Jr. Suspended Next Week. Anyone know Why?

And you have definitely assigned yourself the roles of judge and jury, the question is, when the time comes, will you also volunteer to be the executioner? After all it is most important that we "drive this out of the mainstream" and some people will continue to abuse their first amendment rights by saying "hurtful" things no matter how many times they are called out, right?
Hyperbole much? People condemn and criticize egregious behavior. For far too long, people kept silent. It did immense harm. Perhaps not being so over the top would help.

Back on topic, Tim Conway Jr. was supposed to be back on the air tonight, but Mark Thompson was filling in for Tim and he said that Tim will be gone all week. Mark said Tim would be back on Monday. Did the suspension get extended or is it another Bill Handel situation?

Well, that's not good.

If I were a bettin' man, I'd say Timmy & family went on vacation to Oregon (his favorite place to go) for an additional week. Turn the suspension into a legit vacation. No inside info, obviously. If so, can't say I blame him. Lovely weather pretty much everywhere this time of the year.

I have no evidence to think otherwise and the fill-in hosts this week (Mark Thompson on Tuesday and Wednesday) have all said that “Timmy” will be back on Monday. They are still playing his “It’s Timmy Time” song at 7:05 PM everyday. They are still running promos on air for his show. I agree with you, I bet he turned it into a two week family vacation around Memorial Day. Might as well make the most out of an unfortunate situation.

On the other hand, poor Bill Handel has been out for at least a month and a half now with Gary and Shannon filling in as the new morning show. No word on when or if he is coming back. Hopefully his back issues get resolved soon because I miss Gary and Shannon in their 10-2 slot. The revolving door of fill-ins during that time slot is hit or miss right now (although I do like Bryan Suits and I wish KFI would utilize him more).

On Monday, Wayne filled in and was quite candid.

Bill knew a month ago he'd need back surgery. He decided to try out other stuff — and after three weeks of no success, he finally relented and got surgery. So that delayed his return about a month.

IMO, I enjoy Wayne and Jennifer (the "Handel morning crew") as fill-ins more than Gary and Shannon. They are a talented duo, and likely now proven they'd be a top choice for Handel's eventual replacement (after retirement). But G&S just never were my cup of tea. Even back when Shannon was on with J&K.

On the topic of Conway show; you know who also is out all this week? Sharon Bellio. If there actually is backroom heartburn, this would not be a good sign. Or (more likely), she's also out on vacation.

With Handel out sick and Conway on suspension, there's little left for me to listen to on KFI. Dark Secret Place can be okay. And Wayne's fill-ins are pretty good. Hope everyone is healthy and back by the 4th of July.

I'm surprised a show like Family Guy hasn't been called out for its racist jokes against Asians, rape jokes, ect.
Maybe I'm wrong but I think the difference with shows like Family Guy and South Park is that one knows pretty much exactly what they'll see when they tune in, and exactly the type of humor and content those shows are made of - and both seem to be 'equal opportunity offenders' meaning at some point they'll parody nearly every race, religion and orientation - That's especially true with South Park. If that type of humor becomes "no longer funny" to many people and tastes change, ratings will drop and the shows will be replaced.

That said, there have already been some noteworthy changes to those types of shows recently. The Simpsons announced last year that white voice actors would no longer be used for non-white characters, and on Family Guy, the white voice actor who voiced Cleveland stepped away, opening that role up so a black voice actor could voice that black character. At least at one time, Comedy Central would only air South Park episodes after a certain time (I think it was 10 p.m.) when most children would be in bed for school. If adults wished to tune in, so be it.

I agree with your assessment. I wouldn’t read much into Sharon Bellio being out too this week since she was a part of the original suspension with Tim Conway last week. They probably both decided to take the Memorial Day week off for an early summer vacation. Now if neither one is back on Monday, June 7th, then I would be concerned!

There are zero positive Asian stereotypes on any of Seth Macfarlane's shows.

He's trying to have his cake and eat it, too. ("We're making fun of [group], ironically. Making fun of how other people make fun of them — by making fun of them.") I'm afraid that show is not going to age well through the 20s and 30s. Show was already a guilty pleasure. Guess it'll just become a guiltier pleasure.

As media continues moving away from a "push" model (broadcast) to a "pull" model, we really need to re-think broadcast decency standards. How many kids are "tuning in" anymore? Don't pretty much anyone under age 30 go to a VOD/podcatcher and "pull" down what they want?

As more and more people find artists such as Cardi B to be acceptable entertainment, if not absolute role models, it absolutely becomes time to re-think decency standards.

Nobody gives Seth McFarland a hard time for the same reason I noted above why they always give Howard Stern a pass. Politically, he is on the same side.

I laughed at all of the responses I got to that post ["Howard doesn't always say he is right"; "He took himself off of public airwaves broadcast" (as if Sirius XM doesn't otherwise have decency standards)]. I find it interesting that not one person said "It was wrong then, it would be wrong now, it is inappropriate for public airwaves".

What specifically are you talking about?
The example I gave of Howard spanking nude strippers live on the radio.

And to be clear, if that is your thing, that is fine, to each his own and I don't begrudge anyone for thinking that is good entertainment or Howard for his success with these and similar stunts. Low brow entertanment has its place and I will never be in favor of censoring. But it should be on an adult, private transaction basis; the public airwaves are not an appropriate venue. Not now, not then, not ever.

Howard agreed, and took his act to satellite, where he made far more money than he'd ever make on the radio.

What's the problem here? I don't see how his politics played a part. He didn't get a pass. He was fined five times.

I think these are 2 different things. The "pull" model where people go to the web or on-demand to "pull" content is more or less unrestricted, especially considering one needs to purposely seek out and get that programming. Adult movies and other content you won't find on broadcast TV are readily available on the web. The other day my significant other was watching a series on Netflix, and it seemed every several minutes someone was either being beaten, brutally killed or there'd be a softcore scene with plenty of frontal female nudity and action that left little to the imagination.

That said, when it comes to the "push" model - networks like Comedy Central that are in the basic channel lineups on many cable or dish subscriptions and one can just stumble upon those while channel surfing, that's where you'll find things in place like the Motion Picture Association rating being displayed on the screen before particular shows or content is aired, and situations like the one I mentioned above where South Park was only aired after 10 p.m., when the young ones were expected to be asleep.

Back on topic, I am happy to report that Tim Conway Jr. was back on the air today on a pretty busy news day in Southern California. Ding Dong!!

Ding dong! [Santa Anita starting trumpet]

Glad to hear he's back on the air, too. I forget how much I listen to it. It's just always there in the evenings — so I really miss it when it's gone.
